Mexican interiors radiate a vibrant warmth, effortlessly blending color and comfort with a touch of whimsy. These spaces capture the heart with their delightful fusion of handcrafted treasures from Spanish and Native Indian heritages, lending an age-old allure.

The furnishings, rooted in the robust aesthetics of Spanish and Mayan cultures, are typically crafted from rich woods like pine, walnut, and cherry, or upholstered in genuine leather. Often exuding a rustic charm, these sofas, beds, and tables are both sturdy and enchanting. The floors come alive with vivid, handwoven rugs, while multihued cushions and geometric-patterned curtains dance with color, encapsulating the vivacious spirit of Mexican design.

Mexican interiors burst with vivid accessories like candles, mirrors, painted figurines, wall hangings, masks, and handcrafted pottery. The color scheme is dominated by fiery reds, sunny yellows, earthy terracottas, and artistic blues.

At its core, Mexican design is a global story, reflecting world travels and personal experiences. It’s vibrant, rich in textures, and blends diverse artifacts, from antiques to modern items. Each piece has a tale, often becoming a talking point. While the style embraces elements from various cultures, there’s a unique pull towards certain colors and crafts, making every space deeply personal and inviting.

Mexican-style interior design is influenced by a rich history, diverse culture, and vibrant aesthetics. Typical design elements include:

  1. Color Palette: Mexican interiors often boast vibrant colors, as described in the next section.

  2. Talavera Tiles: These hand-painted ceramic tiles, often with intricate patterns and bright colors, are a hallmark of Mexican design. They’re used for flooring, wall decoration, countertops, and backsplashes.

  3. Handcrafted Pottery: Clay pots, vases, and dishes, often in earthy tones or hand-painted in vivid colors, are popular decor items.

  4. Rustic Wooden Furniture: Heavy, sturdy wooden furniture, often with carved detailing, is a staple. Woods like pine, mesquite, and alder are frequently used.

  5. Wrought Iron: This is commonly used for light fixtures, bed frames, window grills, and decorative gates. Its intricate designs add a touch of vintage elegance.

  6. Textiles: Handwoven blankets, rugs, and cushions in vibrant colors and patterns play a significant role. These often feature Aztec or Mayan-inspired designs.

  7. Architectural Details: Exposed wooden beams, arched doorways, and niches or “nichos” are common architectural elements.

  8. Courtyards and Patios: Reflecting the importance of outdoor living in Mexican culture, courtyards and patios often serve as the heart of the home, adorned with plants, fountains, and tiles.

  9. Religious Artifacts: Items like crosses, altars, and statues of saints often find their way into Mexican homes, reflecting the country’s deep Catholic roots.

  10. Murals and Folk Art: Walls may be adorned with large painted murals or smaller pieces of folk art, showcasing stories, history, or religious themes.

  11. Plants: Natural elements are integrated with plants like cacti, succulents, and colorful flowers, both inside the home and in outdoor spaces.

  12. Leather Elements: Leather, often hand-tooled, can be found on furniture, as decorative elements, or in floor coverings.

These elements, when blended together, produce interiors that are warm, inviting, and reflective of Mexico’s rich tapestry of history and culture.

Mexican-style interior design is renowned for its vibrant color palette, which draws inspiration from its rich cultural, historical, and natural landscapes. Here are some colors commonly associated with Mexican-style interiors:

  1. Fiery Reds & Oranges: These colors often recall sunsets, traditional spices, and are prominently featured in textiles and ceramics.

  2. Earthy Terracottas & Browns: Reflecting the clay pottery and landscapes, these hues add warmth and grounding.

  3. Bright Yellows & Golds: Evoking the brilliance of the sun, these shades can range from pale lemon to deep mustard.

  4. Cobalt & Turquoise Blues: Influenced by Mexican tiles (“talavera”) and the Caribbean Sea, these colors are vibrant and prominent.

  5. Lush Greens: Reminiscent of Mexico’s rich vegetation and forests.

  6. Deep Indigos & Purples: These can be found in traditional textiles and represent the blending of Spanish and indigenous influences.

  7. Soft Pinks & Coral: Inspired by traditional architecture and flora.

  8. Whites: Often used as a neutral backdrop, especially in colonial-style buildings and interiors.

Each color can be used in a variety of shades, from muted to bright, depending on the desired effect and regional influences. These colors are often complemented by natural materials like wood and leather, as well as traditional patterns and motifs, to create a holistic and authentic Mexican ambiance.

Globally Inspired, Soulfully Aligned: The New Design Frontier

Globally Inspired Styles with the Soul of Aligned Design

I’ve always been inspired by global design styles — the way they gather beautiful stories, textures, and colors from around the world. Each piece, from the art to the decor, carries a story, inviting us to connect with different cultures and experiences, weaving a rich tapestry of meaning into our spaces.

In my philosophy of Aligned Design, we focus not just on beauty, but on creating environments that resonate deeply with who we are and what we value. Global style naturally supports this, helping us forge a connection — not only to the wider world but also to ourselves.

When we Connect through design, we invite a sense of unity, belonging, and soulful alignment into our homes. A space becomes more than just a place to live — it becomes a reflection of the beauty of the world and the peace within us.

This blending of global inspiration and inner resonance is, to me, a new design frontier — one that honors the world’s diversity while supporting our personal journey toward deeper connection and authenticity.

If you love global design styles, you’re in good company — I do too. There’s something magical about how they bring together beautiful stories, textures, and colors from all around the world. Every piece tells a story and adds a little soul to your space.

At the same time, Aligned Design is all about creating spaces that don’t just look good — they feel good. It’s about making sure your home reflects deeper values and feels true to who you are.

So how do these two come together?
Global style helps you Connect — with the world, with different cultures, and most importantly, with yourself. It brings a sense of unity and meaning into your home, creating a space that’s as rich in spirit as it is in beauty.

It’s like giving your space a passport and a purpose — globally inspired, soulfully aligned.

Connecting Globally Inspired Style and Aligned Design

Globally Inspired, Soulfully Aligned: The New Design Frontier
“Heart of Morocco #2” energy art and Edesign by Mary Ann Benoit of Northern Lights Home Staging and Design.

There’s a natural connection between globally inspired design and Aligned Design. Styles from places like Morocco, Greece, Turkey, India, and Mexico — and the free-spirited vibe of Bohemian design — bring so much heart, color, and story into a space.

When you blend that with the idea of Aligned Design — creating spaces that feel as good as they look — you get something really special. Spaces that aren’t just beautiful, but full of meaning, soul, and connection. It’s a way of living that feels good inside and out.

The Beauty of Art

Globally inspired and Bohemian styles are all about weaving together rich stories from around the world. With their layers of color, texture, and soul, they create spaces that feel alive and full of meaning. Bohemian style, with its free-spirited, eclectic energy, adds a playful depth that fits beautifully with my Aligned Design philosophy — creating spaces that don’t just look good, but feel like home for your soul.

My energy art is designed to complement these styles — capturing the beauty and essence of Moroccan, Greek, Turkish, Indian, Mexican, and Bohemian influences. Each piece is layered with fractal energy art, helping you stay aligned with who you truly are and supporting your goals energetically.

In my Connect Through a Tapestry of Modern Global Styles collection, you’ll find art inspired by these rich traditions, each one infused with energy and meaning — a perfect way to connect to the world and yourself, through your space.

The Science of Color

Color plays a huge role in how a space feels — and it’s a big part of my Aligned Design philosophy. The vibrant palettes of globally inspired and Bohemian styles naturally create a sense of harmony and energy.

Think of the calming blues and whites of Greek interiors, the rich patterns and warmth of Turkish and Bohemian textiles, or the joyful bursts of color in Indian and Mexican design. Each one tells a story — and when we use color with intention, it creates a space that feels alive and balanced.

That’s the same approach I take with my energy art. Every color is chosen with care to support alignment, well-being, and connection — so your space doesn’t just look beautiful, it feels like a reflection of your true self.

The Energy of Well Being

Every global style carries its own special energy. Greek interiors bring a sense of calm and serenity. Bohemian spaces celebrate creativity and freedom. Moroccan design adds a touch of the exotic, Turkish interiors wrap you in warmth, Indian decor radiates spirituality, and Mexican design bursts with life and joy.

Through Aligned Design, we tap into these beautiful energies and blend them with what you need to feel supported, balanced, and at home. My energy art brings it all together — combining the beauty and spirit of these styles with intentional energy that helps you align with your highest well-being.

Surround yourself with the energy that lifts you up — every single day.

Personal Reflection, Growth and Alignment

At its heart, Aligned Design is about creating spaces that reflect who you truly are and support you as you grow into who you’re meant to be.

Globally inspired styles, with their deep cultural roots, and the free-spirited nature of Bohemian design offer the perfect canvas. They give you room to create an environment that tells your story — a space that evolves with you, grows with you, and helps you stay connected to your personal journey.

Because when your space aligns with your soul, it becomes a powerful part of your transformation.

Sustainability and Connection to Nature

Many global styles naturally focus on sustainability, and Bohemian design brings in its own love of upcycling and creative reuse. It all fits beautifully with Aligned Design’s eco-friendly approach — creating spaces that are not only good for you but good for the planet too.

Natural materials like Turkish textiles, Greek stonework, Indian silks, Mexican crafts, and the earthy charm of vintage Bohemian pieces help keep your space connected to nature. These elements don’t just look beautiful — they create a more harmonious energy that supports you, instead of working against you.

Bringing nature into your space can be simple and powerful. My energy art captures the spirit of flora, fauna, and the wisdom of Animal Medicine, adding layers of meaning and energy. Pair it with plants and natural elements in your decor, and you create a space that feels fresh, grounded, and alive — a true sanctuary for your soul.

In connecting to nature, we find a deeper connection to ourselves — calm, grounded, and alive.

The result? Spaces that captivate the eye, uplift the heart, and resonate with the energy of who you truly are.

Tell Your Story with Global Style Interior Design

What is a Global Design Style?

Global styles capture the essence of your adventures across the world, weaving together a tapestry of your experiences and stories. Characterized by vibrant hues, they radiate with the boldness of designs inspired by various cultures, suffused with rich textures and patterns. Every item isn’t just a decor piece; it’s a narrative, sparking curiosity and conversations.

Instead of adhering to a strict theme, treasures find their place without being confined by their origin. It’s a harmonious chaos where antiques cozy up to contemporary pieces, and nature plays its part—be it through the rugged beauty of animal horns, the serene presence of plants, or the raw allure of stones.

Although the heart of global design revels in its eclectic nature—melding elements from myriad cultures—certain colors and cultural symbols might resonate more deeply with you, reflecting your unique journeys and preferences. This design approach isn’t about uniformity; it’s about personal expression, celebrating diversity, memories, and the beautiful mosaic of worldwide cultures.

Examples of Global Style

Global design styles are a treasure trove of cultural richness and diversity. Here are some of my favorite styles and why I like them.

  1. Bohemian: Rooted in a free-spirited and unconventional ethos, the Bohemian style celebrates individuality. It’s marked by an eclectic mix of vibrant colors, mismatched patterns, and a blend of old and new. Common elements include macrame hangings, colorful textiles, and layered rugs.

  2. Turkish: Turkish design radiates with opulence and intricate detailing. Think of ornate lanterns, sumptuous kilim rugs, and Iznik tiles with their intricate blue and red motifs. Brass and copperware, often with intricate engravings, are also hallmarks.

  3. Moroccan: This style evokes the allure of a desert oasis. Key elements include geometric mosaics, lanterns, carved wooden pieces, and rich textiles in deep reds, oranges, and blues. Arched doorways and lush courtyards complete the look.

  4. Mexican: Bursting with vivid colors, Mexican interiors draw from its indigenous cultures and Spanish colonial influences. Hand-painted Talavera tiles, rustic wooden furniture, and vibrant textiles are central, along with folk art pieces and pottery.

  5. Greek: Greek design channels the serene beauty of the Mediterranean. Bright white and deep blue are dominant colors, reminiscent of the iconic Santorini landscapes. Elements include airy linens, hand-painted ceramics, and rustic wooden details.

  6. Indian: Indian interiors are a tapestry of rich hues, intricate patterns, and spiritual motifs. Brass lamps, colorful silk textiles, carved wooden furniture, and ornamental mirrors are typical. The vibrant colors—saffron, turquoise, and fuchsia—are inspired by Indian festivals and landscapes.

A common thread that binds these styles is the emphasis on craftsmanship and the use of natural materials, making them perfect for eco-friendly and sustainable designs. The use of wool, silk, wood, bone, and stone, among others, underscores a deep connection to the earth and traditional artisanal practices.

So, which ones resonates with your personal experiences, aesthetic preferences, and the ambiance you want to create?

Each style has its unique charm, narrative, and essence. Which one feels like home to you? Which one ignites your wanderlust or brings back cherished memories?

Mexican interiors are full of color, are welcoming, warm and there is often a sense of playfulness and whimsy. A mix of colorful, exotic Spanish and Indian handcrafted items and practical things add old world charm.

The furniture is made from solid wood or leather with designs from the Spanish and Mayan cultures. Most are made from pine, walnut and cherry. Sofas, beds and tables often have a rustic look. Rugs are usually hand woven and brightly colored. Multicolored cushions and geometrical patterns for the curtains are common.

Colors of Mexico

Accessories are colorful and bright and include candles, vases and mirrors, painted wooden animal figurines, wall hangings, clay pottery, woven baskets, traditional masks and paintings.

Colors are bright. Red is common and Yellow is also used heavily in shades ranging from bright lemon yellow to deep earthy golds. Terracotta is common. Blues are commonly used in art and accessories.

Mexican style is a global design style. Global styles are all about your worldly adventures and telling your story! They are usually very colorful, rich in bold designs and natural textures, patterns, colors and arts and crafts of various cultures. Each piece has a story and becomes a conversation starter.  Treasures are displayed without rules or grouping by the part of the world each piece is from. Antiques mix with modern pieces, and natural objects such as animal horns, plants and rocks add to the charm. While global design styles are eclectic and may mix and match items from a variety of countries, you may be drawn to the colors and cultural artifacts of some countries more than others.
