Look Great While You Save the Planet!

OK, well maybe you can’t save the whole planet all at once but you can certainly save some of it by wearing eco-friendly, gorgeous clothes. and get 25% off at the same time (use code WELCOME25)! And it is a great excuse to shop and feel good about it!

Eco-friendly fashions are made from natural or recycled materials. Natural materials can include wool, silk, cotton, leather or new materials reconstituted from plant materials such as Modal or Bemberg. Recycled materials are new materials from items that would otherwise end up in landfills.

So just how gorgeous can you look while saving the planet? Here are some examples made from eco-friendly materials that use my one of a kind Fractal Art at Vida.

Natural Materials

Modal

Modal is produced by spinning reconstituted cellulose, from plants such as beech trees, pine trees, and bamboo. Lenzing Modal specifically is produced from sustainably harvested beech trees.

Merino Wool

Merino wool is a natural fiber grown by Merino sheep. It’s thinner and softer than regular wool which makes it easy to wear next to your skin. A biodegradable fabric, merino wool disappears after about 12 months in the ground, where this fibrous protein composed of amino acids will release carbon and nutrients back into the soil.

Cashmere Wool

Cashmere wool,  is a fiber obtained from cashmere, pashmina and other types of goats. It has been used to make yarn, textiles and clothing for hundreds of years. The word comes from Kashmir. Cashmere is one of the most sought-after fibers in the world for scarves and sweaters because it is softer, lighter, and up to three times more insulating than sheep wool.

Twill is a lightweight fabric characterized by its diagonal weave which is nice for cool, but not cold temperatures.

Bemberg

Bemberg is made with regenerated fiber made from cotton linter (found around cotton seeds), a raw material that is pre-consumer waste. Bemberg is a biodegradable fiber that breaks down naturally after disposal.

Silk

Silk is a natural protein fiber with a shimmering appearance due to it’s triangular prism-like structure which refracts incoming light at different angles and produces different colors. Silk for textiles is generally produced by moth caterpillars.

Recylcled Materials

Hey, you can work out and get even more beautiful while saving the planet! As long as you are home all the time, it’s hard to have an excuse (I keep telling myself that!). The following art is made from 54% recycled polyester,  and 46% cotton which of course is a natural material. Cotton is a soft fiber that grows in protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants .

  1. What a great idea for a post. I find on days where I struggle with not feeling my best, that by putting on something pretty it helps! Shallow, maybe, but I like some pretty. I also love the info on natural fibres. THey are so much more comfortable to wear don’t you think?

    1. Thank Judith! Especially in these times, it is great to get dressed and feel great, whether just for ourselves or working at home. Much better than staying in our jammies all day!! And yes, I agree that natural fibers feel so much better on our skin and of course, helps protect our environment too!

  2. Hi Mary Ann!

Your fractal art looks so pretty on all these different items. I can imagine that a lot of women will want to buy at least one item, because looking pretty is important -especially now!

  3. A wrap with wearable art is perfect for zoom meetings and beyond. I love the idea that I could make some basic pieces look designerly with one of your creations.

    1. Thank you Lisa! What a great idea! I had not thought of using one for a Zoom meeting! I am putting in an order for myself tomorrow so will have to add that on:) I will have to make an edesign background image to match:) Thanks for reading and if you end up buying one, please send me a picture:)

  4. These are beautiful, Mary Ann! I am a sucker for scarves and wraps as is everyone in my family. With so many great materials to choose from, these would make wonderful gifts in addition to extending ones wardrobe and saving the world!

  5. Mary Ann, this is such a refreshing post. First of all, your art looks amazing on any of the materials you mentioned above. Secondly, thank you for introducing me to some new fabric. I especially love the idea of Merino Wool (not scratchy)!

    1. Thanks so much Sheri! Merino wool is great, it is basically the same fabric as they use with Smart Wool and always feels good on the skin. I learned a lot about new fabrics myself when I put my designs on Vida. I had never heard of Modal or Bemburg before, and it was a great learning experience researching all their fabrics for this post.

  6. So lovely, Mary Ann! I too am a scarf lover never traveling without several to make my basic outfits look entirely different. and I am so a promoter of looking our best even while staying at home to make me not feel like I look! Great post and art work!

    1. Thanks so much Carla! I ordered some last week and can’t wait to try them out in person! I can model them for my cat since I can’t go anywhere right now, haha. I’m sure she will love them.
