Aligned Design

My philosophy of great Interior Design, which I call Aligned Design, considers three key factors. These are art, science and energy. The intersection of the three is where the magic happens.

Aligned Design is my holistic approach and philosophy of Interior Design, one that considers every layer of a space. There are three components, art, science and energy that create the perfect space for a person that truly support that individual in all ways. 

Where as most designers consider the aesthetics and the function first, I consider energy as the foundation for everything. 

What do I mean by art, science and energy? 

The Art of Beauty – The art is the part that primarily makes your design beautiful, as well as the art on your walls. Beyond mere aesthetics, I am passionate about creating spaces that tantalize the senses, celebrating art and artisans, striking a chord with those who step into them because it creates an extraordinary sensory experience.

The Science of Color – Standing out in the realm of design, I harness a scientific approach to color. As Alaska’s sole certified color strategist, I employ a scientific approach to ensure every hue sings in harmony based on color science and not on guesswork or made-up undertones.

The Energy of Well-Being – I go beyond the visible, intuitively tuning into the energies of individuals and spaces. This unique insight lets me weave a tapestry where every design element resonates with its inhabitants. In addition, I create energy art to tap into expressing the essence of who you are when you are in alignment with who you are meant to be and also pieces that can support you and your potential. This energy art serves as the foundation for the art and science of your design. The energy I put into the designs along with the energy of your desires and aspirations creates a powerful energy in your space every time you see it.

A great plan lays the foundation for everything to come and saves you time and money. The best way to get a plan is to do an Aligned Design consultation with me.

Take Your Time

Creating a perfect space tailored to you is a process that requires time. Stay patient. It’s better to gradually buy items that you love and fit your plan as your budget allows. Avoid rushing to fill your home with “just okay” items to finish quickly. Such purchases might not last or satisfy you in the long run. Spending on what you truly love will ensure your space truly resonates with you.

Out with the Old

Begin crafting your ideal space by decluttering, making room for new experiences and items. Remember, less is more. Is your space so crowded that individual items can’t stand out? Are there items that bring you joy that deserve a special spot?

If you have more belongings than space to display them, consider storing some away. Rotate these items seasonally to keep your space fresh and dynamic. Remember, all those items contain energy. Is it all positive energy? If not remove it. Too many things cause a feeling of chaotic energy in your space.

Who Are You and Who Do You Want To Be?

What’s your story? What brings you joy? What are your aspirations in life? What activities do you love doing, even without pay?

It’s easy to fall for the allure of online room pictures and desire the same for ourselves. However, creating your perfect space involves telling your unique story. While these pictures can inspire, not everything will fit well in your home, or lifestyle, or complement what you already have. Instead, seek out items that hold meaning to you, give them a special place, and make them the centerpieces of your design.

Consider where you want to go in life and who you want to become. Your space should support you on this journey.

Take the time to reflect and figure it out, as it truly matters.

Energy art is a great way to express who you are and support you, in addition to providing a foundation for the rest of your design.

Does it Bring You Joy?

Choose quality over quantity, even if it means spending more or taking longer to gather all the pieces you desire. Items you truly love will bring long-term happiness, while cheaper, less-loved items may lose their appeal quickly. Classic pieces will endure, while trendy items may fade along with your interest.

Remember, joy isn’t solely about possessions. It’s about connection—to yourself, your aspirations, nature, and the energy in and around your environment. 

Utilize color, nature’s inspiration, energy art and Feng Shui to create spaces that offer a sense of well-being.

Make Magic Happen with Color

Color can work wonders, influencing your mood and it’s easy to alter. A fresh coat of paint can dramatically change a room, and it’s affordable. Experiment with rich colors, even if just in a small space like a powder room.

Alternatively, use neutral colors on your walls and bring vibrancy with colorful accessories or art. Neutrals on walls and furniture allow you to change accent colors like pillows, artwork, and accessories whenever you want a new look.

Consider consulting a color strategist such as myself, who uses color science to choose the perfect hues that complement your existing finishes and furniture.

Take Care of Yourself and the Planet

Consider eco-friendly natural materials when looking for furnishings, pillows, rugs, art, accessories, bedding and mattresses, paint and more. Layer Your Lights

Add magic to a space with layers of light. Find beautiful fixtures that add overhead lighting, mixed with lamps at mid-level and task lighting. Accent lighting on art and under cabinets look great. Put all your lights on dimmer switches so you can control the lighting just the way you like it. See my article How to Make Magic Happen in Your Home with Lighting to learn more.

Look Great, Feel Great, Be Great

With Aligned Design, harmonizing art, science, and energy, you can cultivate a home that’s beautiful, vibrant, and both visually and energetically uplifting.

When your space is better, you are better. When you are better, the world is better. And the world needs you.

The first time I saw Fractal Art, I discovered it accidentally on Pinterest. I stopped in my tracks and was captivated with the brilliant colors, intricate designs and perfect symmetry. I searched for more and became more fascinated. I wanted to know how it was created.  Being an artist myself, I am always on the lookout for new art forms that inspire me!

I was surprised to find out that Fractal art is a form of computer or digital art developed in the 1980’s. It is algorithmic art created by calculating fractal objects which create still and moving images.  In other words, it is abstract art created by math.

 What? Doing math and art at the same time is not my idea of a good time, but I still wondered if there was a way to learn to make it without making my brain hurt!

I found there are a variety of computer programs out there that allow you to experiment with creating fractal art so started playing around. It takes a little bit of learning and experimenting, but this is what I found.

Creating fractal art is like traveling through a kaleidoscope that has no beginning or end.  When traveling, you find a place you want to stop and stay a while. While there,  you can manipulate the color, texture, light, shine, spectrum, hue and other elements around you until you have created the perfect place, and then you save it as an image. Sometimes I go a little too far playing with the elements and I ruin what I have made but can not go back. So I feel lucky when I can capture the perfect image. It is impossible to ever find that place again if I did want to replicate it…it would be like finding a single drop of water within the ocean. That is why each piece is one of a kind.

Here is an example of what I mean. Let’s go on a little journey together through the “kaleidoscope”.

Let’s say we found a good place to stop and stay awhile and want to play with some colors. Below I am modifying the spectrum and hues.

OK, now let’s play with some textures.

Working with fractal art is a little like meditation and color therapy mixed together. As a person that  loves color, I am in my happy place!

Is Health the Top Thing You Want More of in Life?

There are five main aspects of personal health: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual.  Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper sleep can enhance physical health, while mindfulness, self-care practices, therapy, and social connections can support mental well-being.

Interior design with energy art as a foundation can support personal alignment with who you truly are and inspire, support and attract these things into your life.

My energy art is a unique blend of fractal and AI-enhanced designs, and serves as the bedrock of my Aligned Design (interior design) approach. It not only makes your space more beautiful and serves as a foundation for your design and color scheme — it channels and magnifies personal alignment, guiding you to your authentic self. By embedding this art in your surroundings, you naturally enhance attracting health, as well as wealth, love, and spiritual enrichment.

Some Causes of Health Issues

Are You “At Ease” with Yourself?

Often health issues arise when we are not at ease with who we are,  or the results that mirror this in our lives, and “disease” follows. This can come from:

1. Chronic Stress: Long-term stress can lead to serious illnesses.
2. Negative Emotions: Holding onto negative feelings can weaken the immune system.
3. Lack of Self-Care: Not taking care of yourself properly can cause health problems.
4. Unhealthy Relationships: Bad relationships or feeling alone can lead to mental health issues.
5. Unfulfilled Life: Living an unauthentic life can cause chronic stress and health problems.

Resources for Positive Change

Change involves reflection, effort, and honesty. Three resources I have used in my own life effectively are:

1. Energy Art: This can remind you daily of your growth journey. Support yourself with Transformation or Becoming energy art in your space.

3. Podcasts: Jim Fortin’s free podcast offers helpful advice for personal transformation.

Are You in Alignment?

Being in alignment means doing what you are truly passionate about, irrespective of monetary gain. It’s about expressing your unique vision to the world and positively impacting others’ lives, creating expansion for others and yourself.

When we are not aligned with our work and engage in tasks we dislike or solely for the money, it can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health. Such a mismatch between our true desires and the work we do can lead to stress, dissatisfaction, and overall reduced well-being. 

We can get in alignment when we live on a path with heart, doing the things that bring fulfillment and joy,  and this positively influences our mental and physical health.

Unlocking Self-Love: Beyond the Need for Overdoing

Many people take on more tasks and responsibilities, or “overdo”, in the hope of earning love or approval from others. However, this can often lead to stress and exhaustion, and it’s not a sustainable or healthy way to gain self-worth.

True self-worth comes from within, not from the validation of others. It’s important to learn to love and approve of ourselves, embracing our strengths and accepting our weaknesses. When we find love and approval within ourselves, we no longer feel the need to overdo things for others’ acceptance. We can then focus on fulfilling our own needs and desires, leading to a more balanced and content life.

When we define our worth based on others’ perceptions, we give away our power. Taking our power back involves:

1. Releasing Attachments: Let go of the need for validation from others. Your value is inherent and doesn’t rely on external approval.

2. Let Go of things that don’t serve you: Recognize habits that don’t serve you, like overworking. Replace these behaviors with things that do serve you instead.

3. Practicing Self-Care: Prioritize activities that nourish your mind and body. This can range from getting enough sleep, giving yourself quiet time or flowers, getting regular massages or walks or making time for hobbies you love.

Remember, your value comes from within, and the love and approval you seek should first and foremost come from yourself.

Support yourself by releasing unhealthy attachments and practices, and focusing on self-care, you start to regain control over your life and well-being.

How Energy Art Can Improve Your Health

Energy art, deeply rooted in the principles of harmony, frequency, and resonance, can be an influential tool for bolstering your health. How?

Balancing Energies: Everything in our universe vibrates at specific frequencies, including our bodies. Energy art can help harmonize these vibrations, creating a balanced environment that fosters well-being. Try my Yin/Yang and Qi energy art for balance.

Did you know that you can increase your vacation rental income and bookings with home staging?

Home staging highlights the positive and downplays the negative aspects of homes for sale. A professional stager creates a look and atmosphere that buyers make an emotional connection with and they want to buy through decorating and market research. It’s the emotional connection that cinches the deal. Sellers then market their properties to attract buyers online with great photos of their beautifully staged home.

The same principles work with vacation rental properties such as Bed and Breakfasts, and other rental units.

I staged this property that had been a rental unit for the owner to sell. After listing it on Airbnb and other sites, it created a buzz and generated more interest than other neighboring properties in the same area, increasing their rental price, income and bookings from what it had previously brought in as a rental unit before staging.

What is Globally Inspired, Soulfully Aligned?

Globally Inspired and Soulfully Aligned is a New Design Frontier. I have created a collection of collages created with AI and fractal energy art that combine Global Design styles worldly charm with the energy, alignment and emotional nurturing of my Aligned Design’s holistic approach. It’s a marriage of external beauty and internal harmony, ensuring that your surroundings are not just aesthetically pleasing but also soulfully enriching.

Each piece has subliminal energy messages from layers of fractal art designed to uplift and support you. My Heart of Morocco collection includes four layers from my Path with Heart collection and also my Attachments of the Heart Design.

My Path with Heart series emphasizes “All paths lead to the same place in the end. The important thing is that you pick a path with heart, do what you love, and enjoy the journey.” If you look closely, you will see numerous hearts from this collection throughout the design.

Each piece is also overlayed with my “Attachments of the Heart” design. The meaning of this piece is “Buddha said “the root of suffering is attachment”. The biggest cause of suffering in our lives comes from our attachments, or expectations of the way we think things should be.When we don’t get what we want or how we want it, we are unhappy. Attachments of the heart to our lovers, family, pets, and friends are often the hardest attachments to release. The key is to love, but not be attached to the outcome. Let it be what it is”.

While you may not see this large heart because of the transparancy of the design, and you may not notice all the small hearts, the subliminal message still comes through. The message is to live the path with heart without being attached to things for maximum well-being.

What is Moroccan Style?

Moroccan style design is a melting pot of Andalusian, Berber, Persian, and many other cultural influences, resulting in a rich and distinct aesthetic. It’s renowned for its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and luxurious textures.

Moroccan interior design is characterized by its warm, inviting, and multi-sensory experience, layered with historical and spiritual depth. It’s a style that doesn’t just look good – it feels good, enveloping inhabitants in an ambiance that’s both exotic and comforting.

Home Staging Boosts Demand For Rental Properties

At one time investors flocked to real estate, anticipating guaranteed and speedy returns. If you were one of the people who purchased rental properties to create the “passive income stream” that most get-rich-quick gurus recommend, you’ve probably become more nervous about that investment, especially if you’re relying on rental income to offset your mortgage costs.

Whether you have investments in multiple apartment buildings, a few vacation properties or a single apartment in your basement, you can’t afford to have vacancies.

As a landlord, have you considered hiring a professional home stager to enhance the appeal of your rental units? If you have a property to rent, you should make a call to an expert home stager as soon as a tenant vacates the premises.

A vacant room looks sad to anyone, including prospective tenants. If you’ve never hired a home stager before, you’d be surprised at the difference staging can make in the length of time a unit remains vacant.

“I was called to stage an apartment in someone’s home that normally brought in $1,000 per month,” says expert home stager, Debra Gould, founder of the Staging Diva Home Staging Business Training Program. “It had been sitting vacant for four months with no interest before the owner called me,” she adds. “After the apartment was staged, the next three people who looked at it wanted to rent it! The landlord went from having no interest in four months to having her choice of three tenants within a week of having it staged.”

In another scenario, if you own a home and have decided to rent it out, you should not leave it empty. Have it staged as you would before listing it for sale. Prospective tenants will fall in love with a tastefully decorated home much more quickly than a vacant one, even if it’s only for a short-term rental arrangement. You’ll also increase the perceived value of the rental and may attract a higher-quality tenant.

If you are planning to rent it furnished, the staging can be even more important when the prospective tenant discovers they can move right in.

Another area where home staging can make a huge difference is in the vacation rental market. If you’re advertising your vacation home online, does it look inviting enough to entice prospects to make a reservation? Having your properties staged–even just for the attractive photos that will appear on your online listing–will be a worthwhile investment.

The bottom line is that home staging isn’t just for the more typical “home going to market” scenario. You can make money from the services of a home stager, no matter what role you play in the real estate market!

What is AI and Fractal Art?

I created this digital art using a combination of AI (artificial intelligence) and Fractal on my computer. AI required using the right words to tell the computer what your artistic vision is, and then revising it over and over until it is close to my vision. Then I create fractal art using special software based on math. I overlay the fractal art images on the AI images. Each image has a special energy message meant to support you in your life. I infuse my energy to support you through the art during the creation process.

I love creating these mediums because it allows me to work with brilliant colors, interesting textures, and incredible detail.

Look at the range of prices. If you want to be on the top end of the range, your home needs to look as good and better than the other homes in that part of the range to stand out. That is where home staging can really help you outshine the competition.

Who is Your Target Market

To pinpoint your target market, consider the nearby businesses and educational institutions. Local businesses might appeal to employees or those drawn to their services, while proximity to schools can attract families with young children. Nearby medical facilities could be a magnet for healthcare professionals or even for those prioritizing health and convenience, like the elderly. Consider: Is your home perfect for retirees looking to downsize? Or is it more suited for first-time homeowners or millennials? The aesthetic preferences of these groups will differ significantly. Remember, the décor and color palette that resonates with one demographic might not strike a chord with another, influencing your staging decisions accordingly.

What Investments will give you a Good Return

Another reason to do market research is to look at what type of amenities similar homes have such as countertops and flooring.  So, for example, if you are going to be updating your countertops before selling, and everyone in the area has granite countertops, it probably won’t be a good idea to update with Formica, or to invest in granite if everyone else has Formica. In the first case your home will not look as nice as the competition, and in the second, your house will look nicer but will not likely get back the return on the investment you made with your sale price.

1. Hire a Professional Stager: Consider investing in a professional home stager right from the start. They typically conduct their own market research and possess a keen understanding of what appeals to buyers in your specific locale.

4. Visit Open Houses: Gain firsthand insights by attending local open houses. Observe successful layout and decoration strategies.

5. Seek Feedback: Engage with friends, neighbors, or colleagues who’ve recently purchased homes. Their preferences can provide staging direction.

6. Consult Real Estate Agents: Tap into the expertise of real estate professionals to gain insights on market trends and effective staging methods.

7. Survey Potential Buyers: Conducting informal surveys or discussions can help delve deeper into the needs and desires of potential buyers.
