I Learned to Solve all My Interior Design Problems by Dancing- Create Drama with Shapes

I learned to solve all my Interior Design problems by dancing. This is Part 3 on my revelations from dancing, on how to create a drama with shapes

As I mentioned in my first article, it becomes increasingly clear that the threads of artistic expression weave a tapestry that transcends individual disciplines. The principles that animate the magic in Interior Design are akin to those that breathe life into any art form. The key lies in our ability to perceive, to truly see, listen, and feel.

At the heart of this revelation lies a profound alignment—an exquisite dance—between art, science, and energy. Here, art signifies the wellspring of creativity, where the soul’s expression takes form. Science, in the nuanced palette of color, offers the brushstrokes that breathe life into our visions. And energy, the connective force, weaves these elements into harmonious compositions.

This alignment is the crucible from which beauty emerges, both in the graceful movements of dance and in the curated aesthetics of interiors. It’s a testament to the universality of artistic expression, reminding us that the magic is not confined to one domain but is a living, breathing tapestry woven through the human experience.

Create Drama With Shapes

In the world of dance, the stage is our canvas, and every motion crafts a distinct shape. Each sweep of an arm, twist of a leg, or expression on the face traces lines that stretch, not just within the confines of the dancer’s form, but resonate outward into the encompassing space. These movements send forth energy, akin to an artist painting ethereal images in the air. While invisible to the eye, these ‘paintings’ weave a tangible tapestry of emotions palpable to both the performer and the audience.

When props like silk veils come into play, they amplify this visual drama, offering a tangible manifestation of the energy being channeled, extending the dancer’s presence even further.

These lines and shapes we create can be varied: straight or sinuous, brief or elongated, crafting patterns like circles or figure eights, spanning horizontally, vertically, or even diagonally.

It’s crucial for a dancer to utilize the stage’s entirety, ensuring a multi-dimensional dance landscape that traverses height, depth, and breadth. This dynamic spatial exploration is key to capturing an audience’s attention.

However, the beauty lies in balance. While diversity in movements adds intrigue and drama, cohesion is paramount. It’s the delicate dance between variety and unity that captivates. If you’re sketching the air with curvaceous lines, own that narrative. In essence, dance with intent, and let every motion echo the core theme you’ve chosen.

Creating drama by creating shapes in dance and Interior Design.
Dancing a slower Persian dance at the Seward Music and Arts Festival.

For example, a slow, beautiful dance will likely be filled with curves that move fluidly from one move to the next without stopping. There may be an occasional straight line such as a head slide here and there, but they are just dramatic accents.

Dancing to a drum solo may be filled with both verticle and horizontal lines, with lots of up and down motions and slides of the head, arms, chest, and hips. You might add a chest or hip circle or figure 8 every once in a while, more as a contrast that accentuates the straight lines by comparison.

The shapes help tell your story and give your dance…or your room…. drama, movement, and energy.

Create Drama with Shapes in Your Space

The same concepts apply to Interior Design. Consider what shapes appeal to you. Lots of curves give the room softness, a more feminine look, and are more characteristic of global and vintage styles. Straight lines tend to be more sleek, modern, minimalistic, and masculine.

Straight Lines

Straight lines tend to give a  room a more sleek, modern, and masculine feel. Notice how the lines in the windows create a feeling of movement up and down, yet also create interesting angular shadows.

Curves

This design uses curves as the theme in the art, lamps, and bed frame details. The room has a more relaxed, feminine, global style look and feel.

Mixing it Up

In this example, I mixed it up by using primarily curved lines in the windows and art but with the addition of straight lines in some of the accents, like the pillows.. While this mixture feels a little more balanced and neutral in terms of masculine and feminine energy to me, it feels more relaxed, with less of a sense of movement that some of the other rooms had. It feels more “still”.

In this Greek Style design with energy art, there are a variety of straight and curved lines in the furniture, art and accessories.

Ultimately, the amount of drama, movement, and excitement you want in your space is personal taste.  The type of lines you draw in space with all the objects in the room affect the energy, and how you will feel using the space.

Other Ways to Create Drama with Shapes

Incorporating various shapes in interior design is a potent tool to infuse drama and transform a room’s energy. Shapes can dictate the mood, flow, and visual interest of a space. Here’s how to harness their power:

  1. Play with Scale: Oversized shapes, whether it’s a large round mirror, a massive rectangular artwork, or an expansive oval rug, can instantly become a dramatic focal point in a room.
  2. Contrast Shapes: Juxtaposing geometric with organic shapes can create a dynamic tension. A square coffee table against a curvilinear sofa, for instance, offers visual intrigue.
  3. Layer Textures: The shape of a texture, like the pattern on a geometric rug layered beneath a circular table, can add depth and energy to a space.
  4. Architectural Drama: Consider adding bold architectural elements like archways, dome ceilings, or multi-level platforms.
  5. Bold Patterns: Geometric patterns on wallpapers, tiles, or fabrics can bring in vibrancy and movement. Consider herringbone floors or hexagonal backsplashes.
  6. 3D Elements: Introduce 3D geometric elements, such as floating hexagonal shelves or sculptural furniture pieces, to break the two-dimensional plane.
  7. Varied Lighting: Shapes aren’t just solid objects; the play of light and shadow can form abstract shapes. Using angular pendant lights or spherical lanterns can cast intriguing shadows, adding drama and dimension.
  8. Nooks & Dividers: Create nooks or partitions using shapes, like a semi-circular reading nook or triangular alcoves, to break up spaces and add interest.
  9. Color Play: Highlight specific shapes using bold colors. A rectangular feature wall in a bold hue or a circular ottoman in a standout fabric can change the room’s energy.
  10. Strategic Placement: Positioning shapes in unexpected places can shift energy. Placing triangular shelves at varying heights or a series of circular decals in a cascading pattern can draw the eye and create a sense of movement.
  11. Reflective Surfaces: Mirrors, especially in unusual shapes, can transform and expand a space while adding a touch of drama.
  12. Transitional Spaces: Utilize unique shapes in transitional areas, like spiral staircases in hallways or round mats in entryways, to change the room’s flow and energy.

In essence, shapes in interior design are more than mere aesthetics. They’re storytellers and mood shifters. By thoughtfully and creatively incorporating them, you can dictate the narrative of a space, imbuing it with drama, energy, and emotion.

I Learned to Solve All My Interior Design Problems by Dancing-Light Transforms Ordinary to Extraordinary

Light isn’t merely an illuminating force—it’s a storyteller, a guide, and an artist. In the intricate dance between shadow and glow, there lies the potential to transform any space into an evocative sanctuary of feelings and experiences.

As in my philosophy of Aligned Design, the combination of artistry, science, and energectic connection captivates the power of light.and its ability to spotligh the unique facets of your environment and create an atmosphere of enchantment.

Light Makes the Magic Happen.

I have a love for many forms of art, including one of my favorites, dance. I am always noticing the similarities between what is important in the different art forms I explore.

I had the privilege of attending a dance workshop titled “From Practice to Professional Presentation,” led by the renowned dancer and instructor, Helia Bandeh. This immersive experience delved deep into the nuances of creating a visually captivating stage or backdrop for dance performances, whether live or on video. Helia shed light on crucial aspects such as décor, lighting, and costuming.

It’s astonishing how much it intersects with the principles of Interior Design! In this article, we’ll zoom in on the magic of lighting.

According to Helia, “light is the most important element in your visual presentation and can totally transform the performance or the space”. I agree, whether it is dance or Interior Design.

Light Shapes Perception

The power of light extends beyond mere illumination. It serves as a director, guiding one’s gaze. Whether illuminating an entire auditorium – encompassing both audience and stage – or narrowing down to a singular performer, light dictates where our attention lies.

In our homes and workplaces, strategic lighting can accentuate a piece of art, create a cozy reading nook, illuminate a kitchen countertop, or guide a path. The right play of light can alter our perception of space, both in terms of size and ambiance.

For instance, during a performance, when a specific area is spotlighted, it not only commands focus but can also transform the vastness of a stage or room into a cozy, intimate setting, allowing external distractions to fade into obscurity.

Light is the Master of Color

In the realm of the stage, light serves as a masterful tool for manipulating color, all without altering the physical aspects of the set. Consider, for instance, the transformative effect of various lights on a dancer adorned in a white dress. Colored lighting has the capacity to envelop the backdrop, intensify the hues enveloping the performer, or instill a distinct mood.

Within your interior spaces, the presence of colored light can profoundly impact the perceived warmth or coolness of the surroundings, thereby orchestrating the very essence of your colors. Here, light reigns supreme as it can effortlessly usher in a festive ambiance, as exemplified by the twinkling charm of Christmas lights.

Light is the Maestro of Drama

Sharp, hard light, characterized by its pronounced contrast between luminosity and shadow, isn’t just a source of illumination; it’s a storytelling tool. By carving out a space with stark differences between light and dark, hard light can evoke intense emotions, channel focus, and create a cinematic atmosphere.

Imagine a room bathed in soft, uniform light. Now, introduce a singular beam of hard light, spotlighting a piece of art on the wall or a vintage table in the center. Instantly, that object becomes the room’s protagonist, drawing eyes and sparking intrigue. This interplay isn’t merely about visibility, but about imbuing significance.

Similarly, in the realm of theater and dance, hard lighting can elevate a scene or movement, turning a simple gesture into a moment of raw, emotional power. The way it carves shadows and highlights can echo the intricacies of the human condition – our vulnerabilities, our strengths, our moments of introspection.

In essence, light doesn’t just illuminate; it punctuates, intensifies, and narrates, shaping our experience of any given space or moment.

Light- The Ultimate Designer’s Tool

In the realm of design, light isn’t just an element; it’s the alchemy that metamorphoses a space. “Light stands as the cornerstone of design, wielding the power to wholly redefine an environment.”

As I journey through life, my appreciation deepens for the interwoven tapestry of artistic disciplines. The parallels between Interior Design and other artistic endeavors are striking. At their core, they share foundational principles that breathe life into masterpieces. It requires a keen sense of observation, a discerning ear, and a heart that resonates with the ambient energy to truly discern these connections.

The artistry (innate creativity), melded with the precision of science (understanding of colors), and the profoundness of energy (the emotive connection), orchestrates a harmonious ballet of elements. This trinity of alignment is my guiding compass, allowing me to choreograph exquisite dance performances and craft evocative interior spaces.

Light- The Unspoken Director

Within the canvas of your interior, light is the artist’s brush, poised to highlight key facets of your environment. It possesses the remarkable ability to draw the viewer’s focus with pinpoint precision – whether it’s accentuating a cherished piece of art, carving out a serene reading alcove, illuminating a workspace in your kitchen or office, or gently guiding you along a well-defined pathway.

Moreover, the art of spotlighting and dimming is akin to wielding a magician’s wand. It bestows the power to sculpt how we perceive space, deftly crafting an atmosphere of intimacy and charm. Envision yourself nestled before a flickering fireplace, with the remainder of the room bathed in a soft, subdued glow. Or picture a cozy reading nook or a captivating game corner, bathed in the gentle embrace of selectively dimmed lighting, beckoning you to unwind and lose yourself in the moment. These are the artful manipulations of light that transform mere spaces into immersive experiences.

Light- The Master of Energy

The energy of lighting profoundly influences the energy, or ambiance, of a space through how it affects  our senses, emotions, and perceptions:

  1. Emotional Resonance: Different lighting can evoke different feelings. Warm, soft lighting often feels cozy and inviting, evoking feelings of relaxation and warmth. In contrast, cool, bright lighting can energize and invigorate a space, making it feel active and alert.

  2. Focus and Perception: Lighting can be used to draw attention to specific elements of a room, guiding one’s gaze and perceptions. By spotlighting a particular object or area, it becomes a focal point, altering how the space is experienced. Conversely, shadows can be used to create depth and mystery, lending a room an air of intimacy or contemplation.

  3. Spatial Dynamics: The way light spreads throughout a space can make it feel larger or smaller. Bright, evenly distributed light gives the sensation of openness, making a space feel larger. Dim lighting or selectively illuminated areas can make a space feel cozy, intimate, and more segmented.

  4. Temporal Ambiance: The changing nature of lighting, especially natural light, sets the rhythm of our day. Morning light can feel fresh and invigorating, while evening light is often warm and settling. By mimicking these natural transitions, artificial lighting can set the mood or change the energy of a room to align with our circadian rhythms.

  5. Color Interaction: Light affects the way we perceive colors. The hue and intensity of light can enhance or mute the colors in a room, thereby changing its overall energy. A room bathed in golden hour light will feel vastly different from the same room illuminated by the bluish light of a cloudy day.

  6. Cultural and Personal Associations: Different cultures, and even individuals, might have varying associations with light based on experiences and upbringing. For example, candlelight might evoke feelings of romance, spirituality, or introspection depending on one’s personal experiences.

  7. Energetic Flow: In metaphysical terms, light is often associated with positive energy flow. A well-lit space is considered to have good ‘Chi’, encouraging vitality, clarity, and well-being.

In essence, the energy of lighting is intrinsically linked with the energy of a space. It’s more than just visibility; the beauty it creates or its effects on color,  it’s about creating an ambiance, invoking emotions, and influencing the very essence of a space’s character.

Do You Need an Alignment?

The Great Conjunction- Now that’s Alignment!

My philosophy of great Interior Design is called Aligned Design and it aligns three key elements of art, science and energy to create magic in your space.

The “Art”,  is what most of us think of as  “Interior Design”, and includes creating beauty by finding and artfully arranging furnishings, decor and art to look gorgeous and function perfectly with your lifestyle.

The “Science”, is about using color science to take your color to the next level of extraordinary.

The “Energy” is all about connection between ourselves and the energy within and around us so we feel great and are supported to be our best selves.

Aligning art, science and energy to make magic happen in your home and life.

On December 21, 2020, there was a Great Conjunction.  A great conjunction is a conjunction of the planets Jupiter and Saturn, when the two planets appear closest together in the sky. Great conjunctions occur approximately every 20 years when Jupiter “overtakes” Saturn in its orbit.

During the Great Conjunction, I was inspired to create some beautiful fractal energy art and Interior Design highlighting it’s powerful energy and how it could be used in your space. Even though the Great Conjunction has passed, you can still harnass the powerful energy of that event through this energy art in your space to remind you to stay true to your own alignement with who you are.

A Story of the Great Conjunction

The Moon, left, Saturn, upper right, and Jupiter, lower right, are seen after sunset with the Washington Monument, Thurs. Dec. 17, 2020, in Washington. The two planets are drawing closer to each other in the sky as they head towards a “great conjunction” on Dec. 21, where the two giant planets will appear a tenth of a degree apart. Are you Intrigued?

On 12-21-20, the planets “aligned” from our point of view on Earth and a great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn occurred.

They appeared closer to each other than they have for hundreds of years, causing them to almost look like one big planet.

So what’s the big deal? Although Jupiter and Saturn’s positions in the sky align “about once every 20 years,”  they haven’t looked this close to us since March 4, 1226. The next one won’t occur until November 4, 2040.

So how does it affect us energetically? Great conjunctions have inspired some people in the past and present to think of them as “omens”.

Planetary conjunctions or “alignments” have always inspired scholars, astronomers, astrologers, and artists such as Dante and Shakespeare to study them or give them meaning.

Art Inspired by the Great Conjunction

While I could not see the Great Conjunction, because here in Alaska we were having a giant winter storm, I could definitely feel the high energy all day. How about you?

In the evening I was inspired to create this series of fractal art pieces. I named the series Great Conjunction. If you like them they are available in a wide variety of home decor products which you can see  at my store at Society 6.

Turkish style is warm and inviting, earthy and exotic. There is an abundance of warm earth tones with pops of beautiful color. lots of patterns and texture and there is a slightly more rustic feel. It is simple, soft and relaxing.

Turkey has ancient roots. The colors and textures of the land has inspired much of the art, colors and culture. Turkish elements are often used in Bohemian inspired designs.

Turkish style showcases Byzantine and Ottoman architectural styles and modern and classical motifs.

Byzantine architecture had lots of exotic, sensual domes and  mosaics, that are graceful and filled with light. It is ornate, vibrant and rich in detail, warm and sensual. It often blends soft whites with rich colors.

If you love feeding and entertaining guests, this might be the style for you, as this is very important in Turkish culture and reflected in their designs.

Turkish style is an example of global style Interior Design. Global Style Interior Design is all about telling the story of your life and adventures through your decor. Each piece has a story and becomes a conversation starter.  Treasures, old and new are displayed from various parts of the world and layered in a rich tapestry of color, texture, art and history.

Colors of Turkey

Here are some of the varied colors used in Turkish design.

  1. Warm and Earthy Tones: Terra cotta, burnt orange, and deep browns, reminiscent of the country’s landscapes and architecture.
  2. Jewel Tones: Sapphire blues, emerald greens, and ruby reds, drawing inspiration from the vibrant bazaars and royal history.
  3. Mediterranean Blues: Aqua, turquoise, and teal, reflecting the hues of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.
  4. Soft Neutrals: Creams, beiges, and soft grays often serve as base colors, providing balance to the vibrant hues.

Design Elements- The Art of Turkish Style

Here are some of the design elements Turkey is known for.

  1. Iznik Tiles: These are highly decorative ceramic tiles, with intricate designs often featuring tulips, roses, pomegranates, and hyacinths in bright blues, reds, and greens.

  2. Architectural Details: Arched doorways, domed ceilings, and detailed cornices reflect the influence of both Byzantine and Ottoman architectural styles.

  3. Textiles: Turkish design boasts a rich tradition of textiles, from thick kilims and dhurries to ornate silks and brocades. The patterns often include geometric shapes, stylized nature motifs, and medallions.

  4. Turkish Rugs: World-renowned for their quality and craftsmanship, they come in a vast array of patterns, colors, and styles.

  5. Ottoman-Style Seating: Low sofas or divans, often without legs, placed around a room’s perimeter, accompanied by low wooden tables and floor cushions.

  6. Lanterns: Turkish lanterns or “mosaic lamps” are often made of colored glass set in metal, casting warm, colored light.

  7. Copper and Brass: Hammered copper bowls, trays, and coffee pots (like the cezve used for Turkish coffee) are popular decor items.

  8. Carved Wood: Intricately carved wooden furniture and panels, sometimes inlaid with mother-of-pearl or metal, are common.

  9. Marble: Used extensively in architecture and interior elements, from floors to hammam (bath) interiors.

  10. Market-Inspired Decor: Items like colorful ceramic bowls, embroidered textiles, and ornate metalwork, reminiscent of the bustling bazaars of Turkey.

Incorporating Turkish design elements into a space brings with it a sense of timeless beauty and a rich tapestry of cultural influences, from the bustling streets of Istanbul to the serene beaches of its coastline. Each piece, pattern, and color tells a story of Turkey’s diverse heritage and tradition.

The Nazar Boncuk or evil eye, symbolizes the jealous and envious look of others, which can cause misfortunes to a person or his property. Turkish people believe that this amulet protects its holder from these types of bad energies by absorbing them.

In Turkey, the tulip symbolizes feminine beauty, perfection, paradise, the Turkish native homeland and collective cultural identity, and also has a spiritual dimension.

In Turkish culture and interior design, the fish carries multiple layers of symbolism, much of which is deeply rooted in history, religion, and folklore.

The fish symbolizes protection against the evil eye, abundance, prosperity, and spiritual significance rooted in Islamic narratives. It also reflects a harmonious relationship with nature and Turkey’s rich artistic heritage, especially in ceramics and tiles.

The Energy of Turkish Style

The energy of Turkish style interior design is deeply rooted in its rich cultural heritage, reflecting the country’s position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, bridging diverse civilizations over the millennia. Here’s an exploration of the energy and ambiance this style evokes:

  1. Cultural Fusion: The energy in Turkish interiors speaks of synthesis and harmony, amalgamating Byzantine, Ottoman, Persian, and Central Asian influences. This union of styles exudes an aura of both familiarity and exoticism.

  2. Warmth and Hospitality: Turkish culture values warmth and hospitality, and this sentiment is palpable in their interior design. Spaces are meant to be welcoming, with comfortable seating, inviting colors, and an emphasis on communal areas.

  3. Sensory Depth: Turkish design provides a multisensory experience. The textures, from plush rugs to intricate tiles, combined with the rich aromas of Turkish coffee and incense, create an atmosphere of sensory immersion.

  4. Historical Resonance: There’s an energy of timelessness in Turkish interiors, reminiscent of grand palaces, bustling bazaars, and serene hammams. Elements like Iznik tiles or Ottoman motifs connect spaces to a storied past.

  5. Mysticism and Spirituality: Turkey’s Sufi traditions and spiritual heritage bring a mystical energy to its interiors. Elements like ornate lanterns casting patterned shadows and the intricate geometric designs often have deeper spiritual meanings, promoting contemplation and introspection.

  6. Natural Connection: Many elements of Turkish design, from the colors to the materials, draw inspiration from nature — the seas, landscapes, and flora. This connection brings a grounded, earthy energy to Turkish interiors.

  7. Dynamic Vitality: Just as Turkey’s bazaars are lively and dynamic, Turkish interiors have a vivacity to them. Bold colors, varied patterns, and the play of light and shadow make spaces feel alive and vibrant.

  8. Balance and Harmony: Despite the rich patterns and bold colors, there’s a sense of balance in Turkish design. This harmony is achieved through thoughtful arrangement, symmetry, and the strategic use of neutrals and open spaces.

In essence, the energy of Turkish style interior design is a harmonious blend of history, culture, and sensory richness. It evokes feelings of warmth, connection, and timeless beauty, resonating with both the heart and the senses.

The design highlights Turkish tiles on the floor, Moroccan lighting,  and a beautiful Turkish rug. Arched windows, and a Turkish chandelier add to the look.  Kilim inspired and global style pillows against a modern sofa create a nice contrast. The simple Bamboo tables have a rustic feeling and are eco-friendly.

Energy of Turkish Style Design

How is Turkish Style different from other global styles?

Turkish interior design, deeply rooted in the country’s rich history and diverse culture, embodies an energy that’s both vibrant and tranquil. This design aesthetic, influenced by Ottoman palaces, nomadic traditions, and cross-continental exchanges, carries an energy that can be described in the following ways:

  1. Historical Resonance: The energy evokes a sense of history, drawing from centuries of art, architecture, and craftsmanship. Spaces often feel like they’re telling stories of ancient times, of sultans and their courts, and of the vast empires that once were.

  2. Cultural Fusion: Turkey’s position as a bridge between Europe and Asia means its style is a blend of East and West. This convergence creates an eclectic energy, combining the mystique of the Orient with the sophistication of European design.

  3. Warmth and Hospitality: Traditional Turkish homes are designed with hospitality in mind. This welcoming energy is palpable, with cozy seating arrangements, plush textiles, and an overall ambiance that invites relaxation and connection.

  4. Sensory Stimulation: The vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and diverse textures typical in Turkish design evoke a dynamic and stimulating energy. This is reminiscent of bustling bazaars filled with colorful textiles, spices, and lanterns.

  5. Spiritual Tranquility: Islamic art and design heavily influence Turkish interiors. The absence of human and animal figures in favor of geometric patterns and arabesques, as seen in tiles, carpets, and architecture, imparts a meditative and spiritual energy to the spaces.

  6. Nature-inspired Harmony: Whether it’s the blue and white evoking the Aegean sea and sky or the earthy tones of Anatolian landscapes, there’s an inherent natural balance in Turkish design that brings a harmonious energy to interiors.

  7. Craftsmanship Pride: The energy of handcrafted artisanship—be it in woven carpets, hand-painted ceramics, or intricate woodwork—adds authenticity and a touch of human connection to Turkish interiors.

In essence, the energy of Turkish interior design is a harmonious blend of history, cultural intersection, warmth, spiritual depth, and artisanal pride. It invites those within the space to both celebrate its vibrant character and find moments of reflective tranquility.

Energy of Greek Interior Design

The energy of Greek interior design is intricately tied to the nation’s landscape, history, and spirit. At its core, the energy of Greek design embodies:

  1. Tranquility: The predominant use of white, along with the serene blues, evokes feelings of calmness, much like the relaxed and tranquil vibe of the Mediterranean seaside.

  2. Simplicity: Greek design is straightforward without unnecessary frills. This simplicity promotes a sense of clarity, focus, and grounding. It reflects the Greek love for the unadulterated beauty of life.

  3. Connection to Nature: Through earthy tones, representations of olive branches, and the use of natural materials, Greek design maintains a strong connection with nature. This relationship reminds inhabitants of the cyclic nature of life and the beauty of organic growth and decay.

  4. Historical Richness: Hints of bronze and design motifs may recall ancient Greek artifacts, symbolizing a deep respect for history, wisdom, and the stories of the past.

  5. Spirituality: Elements of Greek design, such as the iconic blue domes, can elicit feelings of spiritual elevation. Additionally, the ample use of natural light in Greek interiors brings in warmth and spiritual enlightenment, connecting inhabitants to the divine.

  6. Openness & Hospitality: Traditional Greek homes are designed to be open and welcoming, reflecting the country’s renowned hospitality. This energy of openness fosters community, connection, and shared experiences.

  7. Harmony: The balance between colors, textures, and space in Greek design symbolizes harmony. The interplay between indoor and outdoor living spaces represents a harmonious coexistence with nature.

In essence, the energy of Greek interior design is a blend of serenity, simplicity, reverence for history, and a deep connection to the natural world. It’s an energy that invites introspection while also encouraging communal bonds.

Greek Design Elements

  • Color- Lots of white with beautiful vivid blue, green, fuchsia and gold accents.

  • Accessories– Antique oil jars, glazed pottery, colorful glass. Greek columns holding sculptures or statues, plants or framing architectural elements.

Colors of Greek Design

Greek interior design is heavily influenced by the country’s natural environment and its rich history. Many colors are used but these are prominent.

  1. White: Reminiscent of the whitewashed buildings in the Cyclades islands, like Santorini, white is the most dominant color in Greek design. It evokes feelings of freshness, clarity, and simplicity.

  2. Blue: Various shades, from turquoise to cobalt, represent the Aegean Sea, the Greek sky, and the famous blue-domed churches. Blue is a significant color in Greek culture, symbolizing protection and the evil eye.

  3. Earthy tones: Terracotta, beiges, and browns evoke Greece’s landscapes and ancient ruins. These colors ground the design and provide a warm base.

  4. Olive Green: Inspired by the country’s olive trees, this color adds a touch of nature and serenity to the interiors.

  5. Gold and Bronze: Reminders of Greece’s golden age and historical artistry, these metallic hues are often used in accents and decor items.

  6. Pastels: Soft pinks, lavenders, and yellows, inspired by wildflowers and sunsets, are also found in more modern interpretations of Greek design

Here is an example of several Edesigns. The first I created using the typical Greek color palette of whites and blues with fuscia accents. The second highlights some of the other colors used in Greek design.

Both designs highlight the Greek key pattern in the rug, arched windows, white washed walls, columns, colorful glass lamps and simple furniture.

The first uses my unique fractal art, the “Sea” collection which works wonderfully with Greek design because of the color and connection with nature and the sea which is also prevalent in Greek design.

The second uses my art that is a collage of AI and fractal energy art, infused with energy to help you stay aligned and live a path with heart.

Get the Look- Global Style- Bohemian

The Bohemian style is a radiant dance of earthy hues, metals, and vibrant jewel tones. It’s grounded in neutrals like deep browns and serene grays, then sprinkled with vivacious purples, burning oranges, and brilliant blues.

Those who gravitate towards Bohemian aesthetics are free spirits, unburdened by conventions and always guided by their heart!

Are you captivated by vintage furniture, unique light fixtures, and textiles that tell tales of distant lands? Do you find joy in curating treasures from flea markets, thrift shops, and your travels?

You probably have a penchant for blending luxurious fabrics and glimmering accessories with cherished antiques and eclectic pieces. In the Bohemian realm, if it sparks joy, it has a place. After all, abundance is the essence!

Get the Look- Global Style-Bohemian

The Bohemian style is the epitome of global design, weaving tales of your adventures and experiences into the fabric of your space. It’s a tapestry of vivid colors, intricate patterns, and diverse textures that echo the arts, crafts, and spirit of different cultures.

Every item narrates a unique story, sparking conversations and memories.

There’s a free-spirited fluidity in how treasures are showcased, unbound by geographical or thematic constraints. Antiques seamlessly blend with contemporary pieces, while elements from nature—like animal horns, verdant plants, or raw minerals—infuse authenticity and charisma.

Though global design champions eclecticism, you might find yourself particularly captivated by the hues and artifacts of specific regions, letting them take center stage in your space.

Elements of Bohemian Style

Bohemian style, often referred to as “boho,” is characterized by its eclectic, free-spirited nature. Rooted in artistic expression and unconventional design, boho draws inspiration from different cultures, eras, and personal narratives. Here are some defining elements of Bohemian style:

  1. Layered Textiles: Rich, textured fabrics like velvet, silk, suede, and fur are layered upon each other. Think Moroccan rugs, macramé hangings, and chunky knit throws.

  2. Eclectic Patterns and Colors: Boho doesn’t shy away from bold, vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Expect paisleys, tribal prints, florals, and other global-inspired motifs.

  3. Natural Materials: Incorporate wooden furnishings, wicker, bamboo, and other organic materials for a grounded feel.

  4. Plenty of Greenery: Plants, whether potted or hanging, play a crucial role in boho spaces. They introduce a fresh, earthy vibe and often become central features.

  5. Vintage and Handmade Items: From flea markets to artisanal craft fairs, boho decor often includes vintage, handmade, or one-of-a-kind pieces, lending the space unique character and charm.

  6. Worldly Decor: Artifacts and textiles from travels or different cultures, like Indian tapestries, African baskets, or Tibetan thangkas, give the space a global ambiance.

  7. Low-level Seating: Think floor cushions, poufs, low sofas, and tatami mats, promoting a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

  8. Unconventional Display: Art and items aren’t just hung on walls. They might be layered, draped, or even placed on the floor. The aim is to create an aesthetically pleasing sense of ‘organized chaos’.

  9. A Mix of Styles: Boho often blends elements from various design philosophies—be it mid-century modern, industrial, or even a touch of glamour—into one cohesive look.

  10. Personal Touches: Bohemian style is deeply personal. It’s not unusual to find family photos, cherished trinkets, or DIY items that hold sentimental value.

The essence of boho is not strictly adhering to a set formula but embracing the unexpected, celebrating individuality, and letting one’s personality shine through the decor. It’s about creating a space that feels like a true reflection of the self and one’s journey.

Colors of Bohemian Style

Bohemian style is known for its rich and vibrant use of color, drawing inspiration from various cultures and natural elements. While there’s no strict palette that defines boho style, here are some colors commonly associated with it:

  1. Earth Tones: Deep browns, greens, and grays often serve as base colors, grounding the space and providing a canvas for brighter tones.

  2. Jewel Tones: Saturated purples, fiery oranges, electric blues, and deep magentas are classic boho choices. These rich hues evoke a sense of worldliness and artistic flair.

  3. Warm Reds and Pinks: Think of Moroccan or Indian textiles, which often feature warm terracottas, corals, and pinks.

  4. Golden Yellows: From mustard to saffron, yellow shades bring warmth and brightness to bohemian spaces.

  5. Turquoise and Teal: These colors, reminiscent of gemstones and oceans, add depth and drama.

  6. Neutrals: Though boho is known for its color, neutral shades like beiges, creams, and off-whites play a crucial role in balancing out the vibrancy and providing moments of calm.

  7. Metallic Accents: While not a color per se, gold, bronze, and other metallics often find their way into boho designs, whether through accessories, trims, or decorative pieces.

  8. Natural Greens: Taking inspiration from nature and the emphasis on plants in boho design, various shades of green, from olive to emerald, are often incorporated.

IBohemian style is highly individualistic. While the above colors are commonly associated with boho, it’s more about mixing and matching what resonates personally with your own energy.

This style is flexible, allowing for personal tastes and influences from different cultures to shine through. So, while these are guiding tones, there’s plenty of room for interpretation and personalization in boho color schemes.

The Energy of Bohemian Style

The energy of Bohemian style is a unique amalgamation of various attributes, emanating a vibe that is both relaxed and vibrant. Here’s a breakdown of the energy associated with Bohemian style:

  1. Free-Spirited: At its core, the Bohemian style embodies a sense of freedom and non-conformity. It’s about breaking the mold, rejecting traditional norms, and embracing an eclectic mix that reflects one’s unique personality and experiences.

  2. Creative Expression: Bohemian spaces are often filled with handmade items, crafts, and artifacts from around the world. These pieces tell stories, each item a reflection of artistic expression and individual creativity.

  3. Warmth and Comfort: With its use of layered textiles, plush cushions, and rugs, Bohemian style exudes warmth and coziness. It’s inviting, making one feel immediately at ease.

  4. Connection to Nature: Boho interiors often incorporate natural elements like plants, stones, and wooden items, reflecting a deep-rooted connection to the earth and nature.

  5. Worldly and Cultured: The style showcases an appreciation for different cultures, traditions, and crafts from around the world. The energy is one of inclusivity and global appreciation.

  6. Sensual and Tactile: With an emphasis on textures and materials, Bohemian style engages the senses. Whether it’s the feel of a soft fabric, the visual appeal of colorful patterns, or the aromatic presence of incense, the style appeals to our sensory experiences.

  7. Whimsical and Playful: The eclectic mix often results in unexpected and playful combinations, lending a whimsical energy to Bohemian spaces.

  8. Intimate and Personal: Above all, Bohemian style is deeply personal. It reflects the inhabitant’s journey, tastes, memories, and aspirations. It’s intimate, revealing stories and experiences through design elements.

In essence, the energy of Bohemian style is vibrant yet relaxed, worldly yet intimate, and always deeply personal and expressive. It’s a style that resonates with those who value individuality, creativity, and a connection to the world around them.

How to Get the Look

Want to get the look? Whether you’re diving deep into Boho style or just sprinkling some elements into your current decor, here are some tips.

  1. Jewel Tones: Add splashes of deep, vibrant colors through cushions, lamps, or artwork.
  2. Global Mix: Incorporate items from various countries, blending textures and patterns to evoke a sense of worldly charm.
  3. Velvety Touch: Introduce soft fabrics like velvet for an instant luxe feel.
  4. Metallic Hints: Blend in metals to provide that eclectic spark.
  5. Vintage Meets Modern: Pair your contemporary pieces with vintage finds for an authentic Boho mix.
  6. Treasures on Display: Showcase your personal journey – souvenirs, photos, and unique finds that narrate your story.
  7. Curate Thoughtfully: While Boho celebrates abundance, give each piece its moment. Create breathing space around standout items for a refined look, which I personally like and think of as elegant Bohemian.

Bohemian is all about expressing your authentic self. Let your space tell your unique story, mixing the old with the new, the near with the far, and the bold with the subtle.

Bohemian Style Edesign

Below is an example of an Edesign I created for a Bohemian style living room.

In this Edesign I created, I’ve fused blue and green jewel tones seen in wool rugs, furnishings, and accents. Tribal lamps complement the soft fabric textures of the sofa and chair, while metallic hints in the side chair and accessories add depth. I’ve blended materials like velvet, cotton, leather, rattan, textured pottery, and wool to enhance dimension.

Modern side chairs are juxtaposed against a rustic, ethnic-themed coffee table. My contemporary computer fractal art contrasts beautifully with faux horn mirrors. The vintage vibe of the rug contrasts with the sleek sofa and velvet chair, striking a balance.

The art on the wall is my own fractal energy art, my “Bioluminesence” series.

Overall, this curated design leans towards minimalism, with each piece thoughtfully chosen to give it a more elegant look.

Bohemian Style Color Schemes

As mentioned earlier, Bohemian style celebrates warm earthy colors, metals and jewel tones.

Bohemian decor often uses deep browns, greens, grays or other neutral colors for base colors, then accessorizes with saturated colors.

Here are some examples of the same Edesign using some earthy neutral creams, beige, and brown (Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze) on the walls. Grays did not work well with the design.

How is Bohemian Style Different?

Bohemian style, while rooted in global influences, has distinct characteristics that set it apart from other global styles. Here’s a breakdown to highlight the differences:

  1. Origin & Influence:

    • Bohemian: The name derives from the French word for ‘gypsy’, and originally referred to the nomadic, spirited lifestyle of the Bohemians. It’s less about a specific culture and more about a free-spirited and eclectic mix of elements.
    • Other Global Styles: Typically, other global styles, like Moroccan, Southwestern, or African, are more region-specific and derive elements directly from those regions’ cultures, histories, and landscapes.
  2. Design Philosophy:

    • Bohemian: Emphasizes individuality, freedom, and a disregard for conventions or trends. It’s all about personal expression and creating a space that feels right for the individual, often leading to a mix-and-match approach.
    • Other Global Styles: These often adhere to traditional designs, colors, and patterns from the specific region they originate from.
  3. Elements & Decor:

    • Bohemian: Known for its layering. There’s often a mix of vintage with modern, handmade with store-bought, and a blend of different textures and materials. It’s common to see plants, mismatched textiles, and a cluttered yet harmonious look.
    • Other Global Styles: While they might also incorporate mixed textiles and handmade items, they’re typically more cohesive in terms of the cultural motifs, colors, and materials they employ.
  4. Colors:

    • Bohemian: Typically vibrant and varied, with a rich mix of jewel tones, earthy colors, and metallics.
    • Other Global Styles: While they can also be vibrant, they often have a more defined and consistent palette, like the rich blues and whites in Greek Mediterranean style or the earthy tones of Southwestern style.
  5. Versatility:

    • Bohemian: Highly versatile and adaptive. Since it’s driven by individual choice, it can easily incorporate elements from various global styles.
    • Other Global Styles: While adaptable, they are often more defined and distinct, making them less fluid than Bohemian style.

In summary, while both Bohemian and other global styles are inspired by worldwide influences, Bohemian style is more eclectic, free-spirited, and individualistic, whereas other global styles tend to stay truer to their cultural origins.

Aligned Design

My philosophy of great Interior Design, which I call Aligned Design, considers three key factors. These are art, science and energy. The intersection of the three is where the magic happens.

Aligning art, science and energy to make magic happen in your home and life.

Aligned Design is my holistic approach and philosophy of Interior Design, one that considers every layer of a space. There are three components, art, science and energy that create the perfect space for a person that truly support that individual in all ways.

Where as most designers consider the aesthetics and the function first, I consider energy as the foundation for everything.

What do I mean by art, science and energy?

The Art of Beauty – The art is the part that primarily makes your design beautiful, as well as the art on your walls. Beyond mere aesthetics, I am passionate about creating spaces that tantalize the senses, celebrating art and artisans, striking a chord with those who step into them because it creates an extraordinary sensory experience.

The Science of Color – Standing out in the realm of design, I harness a scientific approach to color. As Alaska’s sole certified color strategist, I employ a scientific approach to ensure every hue sings in harmony based on color science and not on guesswork or made-up undertones.

The Energy of Well-Being – I go beyond the visible, intuitively tuning into the energies of individuals and spaces. This unique insight lets me weave a tapestry where every design element resonates with its inhabitants. In addition, I create energy art to tap into expressing the essence of who you are when you are in alignment with who you are meant to be and also pieces that can support you and your potential. This energy art serves as the foundation for the art and science of your design. The energy I put into the designs along with the energy of your desires and aspirations creates a powerful energy in your space every time you see it.

Combine art, science, and energy, and what do you get? A touch of magic. Spaces that don’t just look or feel right, but that elevate and transform the space and you. Because when your space thrives, so do you. And when you flourish, the world around you does too. Remember, the world isn’t just better with you in it; it needs you to shine.

What if You Are Selling Your House?

What if you are selling your house? Byers will always be more attracted to a beautiful house than an ugly one. Data shows that the right colors can bring in more on your home sale. But energy….reading the energy of the home and staging it for the buyers that are meant to have that house, that is really the secret sauce. So art, science and energy work with home sales too.

Can I Use Aligned Design for Business?

The three also work in business where your design can attract your perfect clients, color can help you sell your product and energy is what will help you make your sales and keep your clients happy.

Let’s Get Started

A great plan lays the foundation for everything to come and saves you time and money. The best way to get a plan is to do an Aligned Design consultation with me.

Aligned Design- Create a Plan

Take Your Time

Creating a perfect space tailored to you is a process that requires time. Stay patient. It’s better to gradually buy items that you love and fit your plan as your budget allows. Avoid rushing to fill your home with “just okay” items to finish quickly. Such purchases might not last or satisfy you in the long run. Spending on what you truly love will ensure your space truly resonates with you.

Aligned Design- Take Your Time

Out with the Old

Begin crafting your ideal space by decluttering, making room for new experiences and items. Remember, less is more. Is your space so crowded that individual items can’t stand out? Are there items that bring you joy that deserve a special spot?

If you have more belongings than space to display them, consider storing some away. Rotate these items seasonally to keep your space fresh and dynamic. Remember, all those items contain energy. Is it all positive energy? If not remove it. Too many things cause a feeling of chaotic energy in your space.

Aligned Design- Out with the Old

Who Are You and Who Do You Want To Be?

What’s your story? What brings you joy? What are your aspirations in life? What activities do you love doing, even without pay?

It’s easy to fall for the allure of online room pictures and desire the same for ourselves. However, creating your perfect space involves telling your unique story. While these pictures can inspire, not everything will fit well in your home, or lifestyle, or complement what you already have. Instead, seek out items that hold meaning to you, give them a special place, and make them the centerpieces of your design.

Consider where you want to go in life and who you want to become. Your space should support you on this journey.

Take the time to reflect and figure it out, as it truly matters.

Energy art is a great way to express who you are and support you, in addition to providing a foundation for the rest of your design.

See my article, Tips to Design Wellness into a Spectacular Life for ideas.

Does it Bring You Joy?

Choose quality over quantity, even if it means spending more or taking longer to gather all the pieces you desire. Items you truly love will bring long-term happiness, while cheaper, less-loved items may lose their appeal quickly. Classic pieces will endure, while trendy items may fade along with your interest.

Remember, joy isn’t solely about possessions. It’s about connection—to yourself, your aspirations, nature, and the energy in and around your environment.

Utilize color, nature’s inspiration, energy art and Feng Shui to create spaces that offer a sense of well-being.

Aligned Design- Does it Bring You Joy?

Make Magic Happen with Color

Color can work wonders, influencing your mood and it’s easy to alter. A fresh coat of paint can dramatically change a room, and it’s affordable. Experiment with rich colors, even if just in a small space like a powder room.

Alternatively, use neutral colors on your walls and bring vibrancy with colorful accessories or art. Neutrals on walls and furniture allow you to change accent colors like pillows, artwork, and accessories whenever you want a new look.

Consider consulting a color strategist such as myself, who uses color science to choose the perfect hues that complement your existing finishes and furniture.

Aligned Design- Make Magic Happen with Color

Layer Your Lights

Add magic to a space with layers of light. Find beautiful fixtures that add overhead lighting, mixed with lamps at mid-level and task lighting. Accent lighting on art and under cabinets look great. Put all your lights on dimmer switches so you can control the lighting just the way you like it. See my article How to Make Magic Happen in Your Home with Lighting to learn more.

I Learned To Solve All My Interior Design Problems by Dancing- Surprise Me

Surprise and Delight!

A great dance performance always has a surprise. It might be an unexpected twist in the storyline. It might be the unveiling of the dancer so you see her beautiful face or costume.

Maybe it is the revealing of an unexpected part of the costume that was hidden that causes the audience to gasp in surprise and delight. Surprise and Delight!!

I Learned To Solve All My Interior Design Problems by Dancing- Surprise Me
Persian Miniature Dance. The silk butterfly wings were hidden until the moment of “transformation” in the story brought surprise and delight to the audience.

Maybe it is a surprising moment where the dancer drops to the floor and swings their hair in wild abandon.

Bandari dance performance by Mary Ann Benoit.

It can be anything. The key is that it is unexpected and brings delight in the discovery.

Surprises tell the story and add drama, texture, and depth to the performance.

With any dance, there are some things that are predictable, such as repeating patterns.  These parts give the audience comfort in knowing they understand what is going on. Then there are the surprises, that keep things interesting, exciting and make a memorable performance.

Interior Design Lessons from Dance

You might be wondering how all this ties back to Interior Design. Well, the concept of surprises resonates much like the unexpected twists in a dance or within the confines of a room.

Over the years, I’ve come to discern the intricate tapestry that interconnects various art forms. The very principles underpinning the enchantment of Interior Design echo throughout many art forms. The crux lies in the art of perceiving, listening, and embracing the subtle nuances that surround us.

Repeatedly, I notice the harmonious interplay between art, the wellspring of creativity; science, the palette of colors; and energy, the unifying force. It’s this alignment that threads the fabric of enchantment, weaving its spell not only in  dance, but Interior Design.

How Does Surprise Relate to Interior Design?

Small surprises are the hidden gems that infuse a room with character. Often found in the accessories adorning bookshelves or gracing side tables, these are the tiny treasures that, as you navigate the space, unveil their charm, wit, or uniqueness. They offer a glimpse into the homeowner’s inner world, prompting questions about the reasoning behind their selection and placement. It’s an intimate experience, as though the homeowner has just whispered a secret to you.

But surprises need not be confined to the small scale; they can also manifest as bold, captivating elements. Whether it’s an unexpected work of art, a daring design choice, an innovative invention, or a fresh approach to presentation, these larger surprises, like choreography in a dance, contribute to weaving an unforgettable narrative. They infuse texture, depth, and intrigue into your design, evoking happiness and leaving a lasting impression that others cherish and remember.

What Surprises and Delights You?

Creating your dream space is an ode to authenticity, capturing the essence of your character, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. Dive deep into what truly mesmerizes and uplifts you, and consider integrating these elements as nuanced or pronounced accents throughout your living space. Such treasures, when discovered, invariably bring forth a smile.

Personally, I’m endlessly enchanted by artistic globes crafted from an array of materials, the radiant spectrum of stained glass, and nuances drawing from the elegance of avian life and nature’s splendor. Such details resonate deeply with those who harbor a boundless curiosity for design’s infinite potential

Create Surprise and Delight with Accents

Accents, whether nestled within a home’s interior or gracefully placed outdoors, serve as delightful ways to add surprise and delight.  For me, the delicate presence of birds and wildlife artifacts lovingly gathered from nature, always strikes a chord. Equally enchanting are handcrafted creations, windows into the creator’s soul, revealing their unique essence and artistry.

Use Surprise and Delight to Sell a House

In the realm of home sales, the element of surprise and delight can be the winning touch. Staging a home is a delicate dance of ensuring broad appeal while leaving a distinctive, unforgettable mark. One surefire strategy to leave an indelible impression is to weave in elements of unexpected joy and charm.

I recall staging a home recently, working solely with the owner’s possessions. The residence already echoed a touch of whimsy, thanks to artful embellishments on the shutters by previous inhabitants. Among the available items, nothing immediately beckoned as a source of delight. However, drawing inspiration from the ambiance, I envisioned a rock cairn by the front entrance — a subtle, enchanting detail awaiting potential buyers’ discovery. This tiny gesture can intrigue and create a lasting connection with visitors, illustrating the power of thoughtful, delightful details

I created some small cairns indoors as decor on the end tables in the living room.

People noticed and commented. I am sure they never had seen something like this before and it made the home more memorable.

In another staging project, I carried my love of small decorative birds into a staging project where I created surprise and delight in a bathroom.

Aligning art, science and energy to make magic happen in your home and life.

Are You Re-arranging Chairs on the Titanic and Expecting a More Beautiful Outcome?

Is your home aligned with who you are, and empower your dream life?

It’s common knowledge that investing in a quality mattress and plush bedding can enhance sleep quality. After all, we spend about a third of our life in bed, and a good night’s rest directly impacts our mood, appearance, and overall well-being.

Yet, consider this: we spend even more time in our homes than in our beds. So, it’s undeniable that our living environment influences our emotional and physical health. The ambiance and energy of the items we choose for our home play pivotal roles in shaping our lives.

Are you re-arranging the chairs on the titanic and expecting a more beautiful outcome?

Does your home inspire joy as you wander through its various rooms? Does it envelop you in happiness, offering a sense of relaxation, pride, and comfort? Does it narrate your unique story, reflecting your sanctuary to guests so they can truly perceive who you are? Is it designed with seamless functionality, providing ample space for your every need? Does it house belongings you cherish while avoiding unnecessary clutter?

Consider this: as you aspire to manifest the life you desire, you must first embody the person capable of realizing those dreams. Your home serves as the nurturing cocoon for this transformative journey. It should support your personal evolution, whether that entails a splendid home office, a dedicated workout space, a tranquil meditation corner, a room for silent introspection, a creative haven, an inspirational alcove, a musical retreat, or simply a place where dreams are born.

Many perceive Interior Design as merely a cosmetic enhancement, something to be considered once other priorities are met, or when there’s surplus time and money. To them, it’s a luxury, not an essential. Yet, the impact of a well-designed space on our daily lives is profound and far from being just ‘superficial’

Are you re-arranging the chairs on the titanic and expecting a more beautiful outcome?

Picture this: with a simple wave of a magic wand, you’re instantly transported to your dream space. How would that daily immersion in your perfect space make you feel? Compare that with your current feelings about your living space. Doesn’t the idea of achieving that dream ambiance seem like a priority worth pursuing?

Are you re-arranging the chairs on the titanic and expecting a more beautiful outcome?

Where will you be 6 months or a year from now if you do nothing? You may think in the same place you am now. Actually, you are worse off because you have spent 6 more months not enjoying your space or having it support you towards your ideal life. Putting it off allows things to get worse over time. Superficial efforts without a design plan are like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic and expecting a more beautiful outcome.

Are you re-arranging the chairs on the titanic and expecting a more beautiful outcome?

It’s time to chart a new course. Recognize that your home plays a pivotal role in your happiness, well-being, and overall health. A well-designed space doesn’t just look good; it supports your alignment with who you are meant to be and fuels your potential.

Exceptional interior design ensures your home is not just aesthetically pleasing but also emotionally fulfilling and functionally efficient. With Aligned Design, you can transform your space to align with your dreams and aspirations, so your space look great, feels great and supports you to be great. You are worth it and the world needs you to be your best.

Interior Design Is NOT About Looking Good

It is about looking great, feeling great and supporting you to BE great.

Aligned Design. Look great, feel great, be great

The common perception of Interior Design is that it’s purely about enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your home. Indeed, most Interior Designers will transform your house into a stunning space that is not only visually pleasing but also tailored to suit your lifestyle, ensuring that you feel content and proud when others experience it.

But great Interior Design is about so much more than looks, form, and function. It is about looking great, feeling great, and supporting you to be great.

When your space is better, you are better.
When you are better, the world is better.

Aigned Design- When your space is better, you are better. When you are better, the world is better.

Sound Familiar?

Homeowners, are you grappling with frustration over your home’s look and feel, striving to achieve harmony, and anxious about costly missteps? Is your space the tranquil haven you yearn for at the end of the day?

Business Owners, are you attracting the clients you desire, and is your revenue a reflection of the value you provide?

Home Sellers, are you currently selling your home, worried it might linger on the market, necessitating repeated price reductions and endless viewings instead of a swift, profitable sale?

The solution to all these challenges lies in the power of great design.

Aligned Design

My philosophy of great Interior Design, which I call Aligned Design, considers three key factors; art, science and energy. The intersection of the three is where the magic happens.

Aligning art, science and energy to make magic happen in your home and life.

“Art” encapsulates the essence of “Interior Design”. It seamlessly blends furniture, decor, lighting, finishes, color, and architecture to craft spaces that aren’t just visually appealing but also resonate with our way of living.

“Science” elevates this art. It employs the intricacies of color science to accentuate your design’s impact. Beyond aesthetics, colors influence our emotions and ambience. Through color science, we transition your space from appealing to breathtaking. Furthermore, science nudges us towards sustainable and eco-friendly choices, ensuring both personal wellness and planetary care.

“Energy” is the soulful connection weaving through each design element. It’s about introspection – connecting with oneself, one’s history, ambitions, and molding a space that nurtures growth and aspirations. It also involves harmonizing with the inherent energy of your surroundings (akin to Feng Shui) and cherishing nature’s touch (biophilia). This deep-rooted connection, further amplified by tailored energy art, offers an ineffable comfort and tranquility in the design.

Why You Need Art, Science and Energy Together

When you prioritize only two of the three crucial elements, you risk compromising the holistic harmony of your space. Think of it as enjoying a meal but missing a key ingredient; it’s satisfying but not quite complete.

  • If you focus on “Art” and “Science” (including color dynamics), your space might look stunning and function efficiently, but it might lack the soulful, personal touch and deeper connection that “Energy” can infuse.   Overlooking the “energy” aspect could affect your sleep, productivity, and connection to nature. By integrating biophilic elements, you not only connect deeper with nature but also align with your true self, fostering improved well-being, relationships, and positive global impact.
  • Emphasizing “Art” and “Energy” can create a visually pleasing environment that resonates personally, but without the “Science” of functional design and the proper use of color, it may fall short in practicality and sustainability.  Without the scientific understanding of color, a design might miss its full potential. Color, when applied with expertise, elevates a space from appealing to mesmerizing.
  • Merging “Science” (with its color considerations) and “Energy” can lead to a functional and emotionally connected space, yet it could miss the aesthetic flair and sophistication that “Art” offers. An eco-friendly home with vibrant colors contributes to well-being, but aesthetics and functionality are crucial too. An inspiring and beautiful environment uplifts your mood daily, while a space tailored to your lifestyle enhances comfort and enjoyment.

Simply put, sidelining one component can throw off the balance of your environment. For a truly harmonious and balanced living space, it’s essential to weave together the beauty of “Art”, the practicality and color science of “Science”, and the personal resonance of “Energy”.

Look Great, Feel Great, Be Great

My Aligned Design system brings it all together to work its magic. Whether it’s for your personal space, business, or preparing to sell, Aligned Design delivers exceptional results.

You’ll know it works when your space is a beautiful reflection of you, flows seamlessly, and inspires you with its colors. It’s healthier for you and the environment. You’ll feel better—relaxed, positive, and productive, aligned with your true self, and closer to nature. Your space motivates you to pursue your dreams and make a positive impact on the world.

Why Does it Matter?

Crafting a space that immerses you in beauty and color, and tuning the energy to promote prosperity, health, love, and authentic self-expression aligns you with the universe. This harmony enables you to live your best life, thereby making a positive contribution to the world.

When we inhabit spaces that uplift and support us, we contribute to elevating our collective consciousness.

When we all live in supporting and positive spaces, we can raise the collective consciousness.
