What Does Energy Art Look Like?
Energy art is very diverse, but you can get a sense of my art and style from seeing some of my recent work below. I believe that if a piece of my art resonates with you, it’s because its energy aligns with what you need to embrace your true self. The synergy between your innate attraction to the artwork and the intentional energy I’ve embedded within it creates a potent energetic harmony in your space, amplifying the desired energy you seek.
Types of Energy Art I Create
I specialize in creating two unique types of energy art.
I develop energy art portraits, personalized depictions of your most authentic self, radiating your inner light. This serves as the foundation for your Interior Design, setting the tone for the entire space.
I also design energy art pieces that symbolize specific themes or concepts pivotal in your life journey. These art pieces, whether showcased as standalone art or integrated into home décor, are strategically placed to inspire you every time your gaze falls upon them.
Incorporating these elements, I blend the visual appeal of art, the precision of color science, and the transformative power of energy into your Interior Design, fashioning spaces that truly resonate with your essence. Through this alignment, I ensure your space not only looks captivating but also deeply nurtures your well-being.

Generational Harmony: Designing a Home for Every Age
The trend of multi-generational living is gaining momentum, transforming the dynamics of family homes. Navigating this arrangement requires a blend of empathy, strategy, and creativity. This article aims to shed light on effective methods for organizing a home that accommodates grandparents, parents, and children, ensuring a balanced and peaceful coexistence.

Create Designated Living Areas
Allocating specific living spaces for different generations is crucial in a multi-generational home. This strategy ensures that each family member has their own sanctuary, fostering independence and privacy. By doing so, grandparents can enjoy their quiet time, parents can maintain their routines, and children can play without hindrances. Thoughtful zoning of the house not only respects individual preferences but also minimizes potential conflicts arising from overlapping activities.
Ensure Accessibility for Everyone
A home that is welcoming to all ages and abilities is a cornerstone of multi-generational living. Incorporating features like ramps, handrails, and wider doorways caters to the elderly and those with mobility challenges. Simple modifications can significantly enhance the livability and safety of the home, making it a comfortable space for every family member. These adjustments demonstrate consideration and respect for each generation’s needs, promoting an inclusive living environment.
Maximize Storage Solutions
Effective storage solutions are vital in a multi-generational household. Investing in clever storage systems helps in organizing personal belongings and reducing clutter. This approach ensures that each family member has their space to store items, maintaining order and cleanliness. Smart storage solutions also help in optimizing available space, making the home feel more spacious and organized.
Simplify Home Maintenance
Managing home maintenance in a multi-generational setting can be complex. Utilizing digital solutions to coordinate and track home repairs and maintenance simplifies this process. These tools help in scheduling services, monitoring repair progress, and connecting with professionals. Streamlining home maintenance tasks reduces the burden on family members and ensures the smooth functioning of the household.
Design Common Areas for Bonding
Shared common areas play a significant role in nurturing family relationships. Designating areas for family gatherings and activities encourages interaction and bonding among generations. Whether it’s a cozy living room for movie nights or a spacious kitchen for communal cooking, these spaces become the heart of the home. They foster a sense of community and belonging, which is crucial in a multi-generational setting.
For example, see this example of a home designed for mulit-generational living by Northern Lights Home Staging and Design with lots of common areas for being together, indoors and outdoors.

Personalize Private Quarters
Customizing private spaces is key to creating a comfortable multi-generational home. Personalization allows each family member to express their individuality and feel a sense of ownership over their space. Whether it’s through decor, color schemes, or layout, tailoring these areas to individual tastes and needs makes the home more welcoming and comforting for everyone.
Bedroom energy art and Edesign by Mary Ann Benoit of Northern Lights Home Staging and Design.
Consider Joint Entrepreneurship
Embarking on a family business adventure serves as a powerful catalyst for reinforcing family ties across generations. The creation of a Limited Liability Company (LLC) emerges as a strategic choice, providing significant benefits, including limited liability protection, tax advantages, and operational flexibility. To streamline the establishment process, families may consider setting up an LLC through a formation service like Zenbusiness, which simplifies the legalities and paperwork involved. Engaging in a collaborative business endeavor not only unifies the family under a shared goal but also imparts crucial business acumen and life skills to its younger members.
Maintain Effective Communication
Establishing clear communication and boundaries is essential in a multi-generational home. Regular family meetings provide a platform for discussing issues, setting house rules, and planning activities. This practice ensures that everyone’s voice is heard and respected, fostering a harmonious living environment. Clear communication helps in resolving conflicts amicably and strengthens the family bond.
Creating a cohesive environment in a multi-generational home is a fulfilling yet complex task, demanding attention to the unique needs and preferences of each family member. By adopting these outlined strategies, families can cultivate a living space that harmonizes collective togetherness with personal autonomy. Balancing private and shared spaces, ensuring ease of access for all, and nurturing open communication are pivotal in this endeavor. Additionally, integrating tools like a home maintenance and repair app can further streamline household management. This approach not only fortifies family connections but also enhances the quality of life for every generation sharing the home.

Saturday Night Live Art Shows- “A Message From The Universe” Energy Art Oracle Card Deck
Welcome to Saturday Night Live Art Shows!
For four years, I’ve been creating ‘energy art’ that taps into powerful ideas, with a goal to enrich your life. This art offers relaxation, healing, and inspiration, acting as a guide for personal growth and alignment, and as a design foundation for creating your perfect space.
Each piece I make feels like it holds a message—sometimes for me, often for others. They’re akin to oracle cards, blending beauty with insights.
I’ve recently published some of my art as a digital oracle card deck on Deckible, a fresh way to access art and insights on your phone.
If this deck resonates with you, there might be a message inside meant just for you, helping you align with your true self and unlock your potential. Get it now HERE!
These cards, rooted in sacred fractal geometry, vivid colors, and sometimes AI art, can also enhance your meditation and reflection practices.
The app not only allows you to explore the art but also offers features like journaling and meditation, as well as tracking your readings.
As an Interior Designer, I’ve used my energy art to create home decor items that elevate your space, which I typically share with you in my weekly Saturday Night Live Art Shows.

Saturday Night Live Art Shows- “Prosperity” Energy Art and Edesign
Welcome to Saturday Night Live Art Shows!
I hope you enjoy my new collection, “Prosperity”, that was inspired by an intention that I set with a fellow artist. Our intention was that our art would serve as a powerful catalyst for connecting people, and fostering prosperity in the lives of both the creators and recieves the art. The idea inspired this AI/fractal art collage, showing a woman recieving the gift of prosperity through art. It is overlayed with fractal art hearts from my “Path with Heart” collection, adding the energy of living a path with heart and being who you are truly meant to be. It also has a fractal overlay from my “Outside/Inside” collection, helping inspire you to maintain your inner peace, regardless of what is happening on the outside. These are hard to see, but add submliminal messages to uplift and support you.
I thought an office space would be a perfect place to have art that attracts prosperity, so I designed this space with the art as the foundation for the energy and colors. This is a great example of how art can transform the energy around you and serve as the foundation for your Interior Design.
Raise the vibe in your space today. Great design starts with energy. Surround yourself with art that reminds you what is important and enhances the energy of your space and your potential. When your space is better, you are better. When you are better, the world is better. The world needs you.

Every element in your space radiates energy, influencing the environment around it. This means that even the art you showcase isn’t just a visual treat; it actively resonates with and impacts your well-being. Energy art captures the essence of life’s forces, be it physical, emotional, or spiritual. Whether through visual displays, dynamic performances, or conceptual pieces like my energy art, it channels and reflects the vibrant energy inherent in existence.
Drawing inspiration from nature, human emotions, and the intricate web of interconnectedness, it offers a unique lens into the vibrant pulse of life’s energies.

What is Energy Art?
Energy art is a dynamic fusion of mediums, capturing the essence of movement, emotion, force and ideas. It ranges from kinetic sculptures that dance with motion, paintings that pulse with life through vibrant colors and strokes, to melodies that resonate with the energy of sound and rhythm. Whether it’s a dancer expressing life with each move or art installations powered by the sun or magnetism, energy art is a testament to the boundless creative spirit harnessing and reflecting energy in many forms.
Heartfire #9 uses color, light and movement to express the elements of fire and the emotion of taking a path with heart that you are passionate about.
Energy art is a way for artists to portray the vibrant and ever-present forces that animate our world. From ancient civilizations to modern interpretations, artists have continuously sought to express these dynamic energies, creating pieces that resonate through time.
“Frequency” fractal art by Mary Ann Benoit. Our thoughts create our feelings. Our feelings create what we vibrate out to the world, or our frequency. We attract what we put out to the world. Life reflects us. What are you attracting?
Types of Energy Art
Energy art is a broad concept that can encompass various forms and techniques, each aiming to capture, convey, or manipulate intangible energies. Here are some types or approaches to energy art:
Intuitive Art: Created while tapping into one’s subconscious, often without a premeditated plan or outline, allowing the energy of the moment to guide the creative process.
Reiki-infused Art: Some artists combine Reiki, a form of energy healing, with their artistic process to create pieces infused with healing energy.
Sacred Geometry: Incorporating patterns, shapes, and symbols that are believed to represent the blueprint of the universe, such as the Flower of Life or Metatron’s Cube.
Mandala Art: Mandalas are intricate designs starting from a central point and emanating outward, symbolizing the universe, wholeness, or unity.
Chakra Art: Art that targets or represents the body’s energy centers, or chakras, often using colors or symbols associated with each chakra.
Kinetic Art: Art that involves movement, whether powered by wind, motor, or human interaction. The movement can be said to manifest or manipulate energy in the space it occupies.
Fractal Art: Using mathematical algorithms, artists create self-repeating patterns that resemble patterns found in nature, often capturing the essence of infinite energy.
Soundscapes: Although primarily auditory, this form of art uses sound frequencies that resonate with the body’s energy centers or help harmonize the energies in a given space.
Crystal Art: Incorporating crystals and gemstones known for specific energy properties into artwork.
Light Art: Harnessing the power of light, both natural and artificial, to affect the energy of a space.
Digital Energy Art: With evolving technologies, artists can now create digital pieces or visualizations that represent or influence energy.
Interactive Installations: Art pieces that require interaction, absorbing, and sometimes reflecting the energy of the participant.
Ritualistic or Performance Art: The act of creating the art is a ritual in itself, calling upon specific energies or intentions.
Visionary Art: Often influenced by spiritual experiences, dreams, or trance states, this type of art seeks to represent the artist’s vision of spiritual or energetic realms.
While this is by no means an exhaustive list, it gives an idea of the diverse ways artists may approach the concept of energy in their work. The common thread is the intention behind the art – to connect with, convey, or manipulate unseen energies.
My Energy Art
From the list above, my energy art includes Intuitive Art, Sacred Geometry (fractal art), Chakra Art, Fractal Art, Digital energy art (I use AI art combined with Fractal art in collages), and Visionary Art based on transformational/personal development.
My favorite medium lately is creating collages from AI art that is layered with fractal art, so that it layers many energy concepts into one piece.
Fractal Art
Fractal art, a type of art I love working with, employs mathematical algorithms to craft intricate and captivating patterns. These self-replicating designs often mirror the mesmerizing complexities seen in nature, resembling the structures found in plants and animals. The elegance of perfect fractal patterns captures the very essence of beauty itself.
“The Rose” fractal art by Mary Ann Benoit
Fractal art, a distinct branch of energy art, captures energy through intricate designs that exude depth, dynamism, and motion, echoing natural things like lightning strikes, flames, or undulating ocean waves. These self-replicating patterns can be seen in other art forms, such as music and dance, weaving in complex rhythms and mesmerizing sequences.
I create fractal art on my computer.I love working with the brilliant colors, interesting textures, and incredible detail. Learn more about how it is created in my Saturday Night Live Art Show, ” A Passion for Purple” where I show some videos of the process.
Energy Artists
An energy artist channels specific types or qualities of energy into their art, such as emotional, spiritual, or physical energy, by imbuing it with their intention.
They may employ materials, colors, or techniques recognized for their energetic attributes, or incorporate symbols and themes linked to distinct energy types. Spiritual practices, like meditation and visualization, can also be harnessed to infuse the art with energy.
I am an energy artist.
Raven Medicine energy art and Edesign by Mary Ann Benoit. Ravens are associated with magic and the unknown. Things we can learn from ravens are most importantly, to be open to magic, and notice when it happens around you. That means being present and aware of what is happening now, rather than in your head thinking of the millions of things you need to do:). Raven Medicine art in your home inspires you to be open to magic and the unknow, and the opportunites it brings for growth.
How Can Energy Art Help You?
Energy infused art can have a positive impact on you when you interact with it and can affect the energy of the space where it is displayed. While its tangible effects may be subtle and subjective, it’s important to remember that everything possesses energy. Every item in your space contributes to its energy, affecting your well-being. You have the power to curate this environment, choosing what influences you.
I infuse my fractal art with spiritual energy concepts using fractal art, vibrant color, symbols of ancient wisdom, meditation, and visualization. and allowing universal energy to come through me during the creation process. I set my intention using my personal energy for the piece to help someone in a specific way, and for the piece to attract the person who needs it. I craft art layers infused with intentional energy tailored to resonate with and uplift those who bring it into their space.
I firmly believe that if a piece of my art resonates with you, it’s because its energy aligns with what you need to embrace your true self. The synergy between your innate attraction to the artwork and the intentional energy I’ve embedded within it creates a potent energetic harmony in your space, amplifying the desired energy you seek.

Types of Energy Art I Create
I specialize in crafting two unique types of energy art.
Firstly, I develop energy art portraits, personalized depictions of your most authentic self, radiating your inner light. This serves as the foundation for your Interior Design, setting the tone for the entire space.
Secondly, I design energy art pieces that symbolize specific themes or concepts pivotal in your life journey.

The perfect piece of art doesn’t just beautify a room—it anchors it, delighting the eye, dictating the color theme, and setting the room’s energy. Changing the art can change the energy of your room. Let art breathe life into your home.
While ‘energy’ might sound intangible, you’ll recognize its presence the moment you step into a room. Everything in your space, tangible and intangible, is woven from this energy. And don’t we all want our rooms to not just look, but also feel spectacular?
I am also an energy artist, and my designs include custom energy art and home decor that ties your design together, creating beauty, harmonizing your colors and reminding you what is important to you. I create art specifically to support you.
Your perfect space is key to your well-being.
Imagine a space that looks great, feels great, and supports you to be great.
“Buzz and Flow” by artist Brooke Harker in an Edesign by Northern Lights Home Staging and Design.
Art’s energy in your space stems from three main elements:
The room’s designer, be it a professional interior designer or yourself, shapes the ambiance, setting the stage for the art.
The artist pours their emotions and interpretations into the artwork, giving it its unique vibrancy.
Lastly, you breathe life into the art, interpreting it through the lens of your own experiences and emotions.
Your selection of art determines the energy you want to surround yourself with.
How the Room Designer Affects the Energy of the Room
I created this Living Room Edesign to showcase the versatility of purple in Global Style designs. This is part of a series exploring how different Global Styles can be achieved using various colors. Global styles like Indian, Turkish, Mexican, Moroccan, Greek, and Bohemian are known for their vibrant hues, eco-friendliness, cultural treasures, and close ties to nature, making them perfect for gatherings.
This particular design represents a modern take on Global Style, offering a sleek, contemporary twist on Bohemian aesthetics. You can delve deeper into the world of global styles by exploring my other blog articles featuring purple, blue, green, red, and black-and-white palettes.
Purple, residing between red and blue on the color wheel, embodies qualities of both neighbors. Like blue, it exudes calm and relaxation, reminiscent of wildflowers found in nature. At the same time, it can ignite passion and energy akin to red. Darker shades often evoke a sense of wisdom.
Purple carries rich symbolism, from status and royalty to spirituality and creativity. Its versatility allows it to resonate with a broad audience, making it a complex and intriguing color.
I’ve designed this space, setting the stage for art to infuse its unique energy. As each artist contributes their perspective through their work, we’ll witness how the room’s energy evolves and transforms
How the Artist Affects the Energy of the Room
I selected art from two of my favorite artists, Brooke Harker and Joan Marie of Joan Marie Art, and picked a piece from their websites that I thought worked with the colors and scale of my design. I also designed some of my own fractal art to go in the room.
Let’s see how the art changes the feeling of the room for you, the viewer, and how it relates to the energy and meaning the artist was inspired by when they created it.
Feeling the energy of visual images is the
language of the subconscious mind.

I am a historian of the ordinary.” Brooke Harker.
Brooke says, “This is one of my favorite paintings I ever created. I selected the magenta color as it reminded me of the energy of a friend who celebrated life vividly. I put elements in the piece that fascinated me such as a single woman walking in stride or a taxi”.

When I am creating the painting I am in them and they seem larger than life. They always feel so small comparatively when they are done and on a canvas.
“Buzz and Flow” by artist Brooke Harker in and Edesign by Northern Lights Home Staging and Design.
I selected this piece for the room because of the high energy and the color, not knowing the meaning behind it from Brooke’s perspective,
As soon as I put it in this room, I felt it added a sense of vibrant, high energy that you might feel on the streets of a large bustling city where all the people brought the energy of their lives as they walked by.
Yet, the purple walls seemed to contain it with a sense of calmness. As if life can seem chaotic and wild all around us, but if we just step back, it is all small stuff in the big picture of things.
I asked Brooke how she felt about the energy of her painting in this room. She said it evoked a sense of curiosity.
How does it make you feel?
Brooke Harker
Brooke Harker is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, California. Her lively paintings of cities and coastal scenes are characterized by energetic brushstrokes in ink and thick oil paint applied with palette knives. These vibrant depictions of daily life capture a sense of motion and highlight moments of synchronicity. Brooke calls herself a ” historian of the ordinary.” Learn more about Brooke and see her work on her website.
“OoGenesis” by Joan Marie Art
I love the colors in this painting and selected it for the room because the colors worked with purple and it seemed so vibrant and joyful.
In my previous career, I was a wildlife biologist, and it reminded me of a super colorful version of a cell getting ready to divide and create new life. It felt like joyful colorful energy about to explode with possibilities. It just glows with joyous energy on the wall.
“Oogenesis” by Joan Marie Art
When I asked Joan about the story behind the painting, she said it is “the birth of a new world, the uniting of colors, all holding hands in unity.”
“Oogenesis”, was named by Joan Marie’s husband after she told him the meaning behind the painting.

“A Passion for Purple” by Mary Ann Benoit
I created a set of three fractal art pieces specifically for this room, which I call “A Passion for Purple”.
Fractal art is digital art I create on my computer. I love the spiral and curved shapes, fine textures, and vibrant colors. Creating fractal art is like traveling through a kaleidoscope that has no beginning or end. When traveling, you find a place you want to stop and stay awhile. The art I create is that place.

I wanted my art to reflect the complexity of purple so that it was calm, yet vibrant, mysterious, spiritual, and elegant at the same time.
I love the way the dark rich purple colors really ground the room, yet the light purple glows with serene energy. It feels very calming, yet vibrant and mysterious as well, as if it has the secret to some ancient wisdom.

Are You Attached to an Ugly House? Six Tips to Set Yourself Free
This week I had a design consultation that gave me a lot of insights into why people have ugly houses.
Attachment, attachment, attachment! Let it all go.
I have learned that attachment to people, things, outcomes, etc. is the cause of most of our suffering. We stress over outcomes and how people behave. We try to control things because we get “attached” to an end result we want. We expect people to behave a certain way because we are attached to our beliefs of how they should act.
We get attached to outcomes because we are afraid of the unknown.
Attachment steals our well-being. Letting go of attachment to certain outcomes, and of trying to control everything can make us feel so much better.
Control is just an illusion anyway. When it comes right down to it, we do not have control over anything or anyone. Things can happen in an instant to take away whatever control we thought we had.
Attachment can also affect the way our house looks and feels, and how likely we are to be able to create that perfect space we wish we had.
How to Release Attachment
Think about your own home. Are you attached to any of these things?
Let Go of Your Pain
During the design consultation, I realized that attachment would likely stop my client from getting the end result she really wanted.
She told me she had never liked the house and had been pressured to buy it by her partner. She described its many issues and that it never looked the way she wanted it to.
Every room was filled with clutter, furniture covered with unattractive and mismatched covers to protect it from the dogs, furniture barriers created to keep the dog away from the cat.
Rooms, instead of being used for their intended purposes, were used for many purposes. For example, the living room also served as a playroom and an office. The separate office was also a craft room and a TV room.
For every suggestion I gave, there were ten reasons why nothing could change. She was attached to her “pain”.
We took the pet covers off the living room furniture and re-arranged a bit, creating an amazing transformation. Sadly, I think after I left it will likely go back to looking the way it did previously.
Instead of thinking of ten reasons you can’t make changes in your home, think of one reason you can. Your home will look more beautiful for it.
Let Go of Fear
All attachment stems from fear, mainly of the unknown. Are you afraid of making changes with color, flooring, furniture, and more?
The unknown can be much better than what you have now. Embrace it and see what beauty might stem from it. Making changes requires taking risks. Beauty could be on the other side of that scary door.
Let Go of the Past
You have probably grown and changed over time. Embrace that. No need to hang on to a style from a bygone era just because you are used to it.
Let Go of the Status Quo
Just because it has always been that way, doesn’t mean it needs to stay that way. Let it go. The pile of things in the corner has been there for years. Does that mean it should remain there forever? We fear change. There is that word again. Fear.
Let go of Control
Feeling the need to control everything is just another aspect of fear of the unknown. The unknown might just be the most beautiful room you have ever seen! Take a chance.
Let Go of Clutter
I know, if you get rid of it, you might need it next week. If you haven’t used it or worn it in 10 years, that probably won’t happen. Everyone I know, including me, has too much stuff.
It NEVER looks good in a room.
Set it free so it can go to someone who really needs it and will love it.
Are You Ready to Let Go?
I know. Sounds hard.
It’s really not though. Hire a designer. They have your best interest at heart and can take a lot of the risk of making a mistake out of the process. They know what looks good and what works. It is a lot less risky enlisting the help of a pro and listening to them than going it alone.
Hire someone with good reviews. Listen to them. Let go of fear and control. Enjoy the ride and see what joy is on the other side.
And if you really don’t like the end result, there is no law that says you can’t change your mind and make adjustments.
Set Yourself Free

Birds provide endless inspiration for creating beautiful designs with the intricate patterns, colors, and textures of their feathers!
Flat Lay #1- The Forest
In my article Birds of a Feather- What Birds Can Teach Us About Designing the Perfect Room, I shared a design for the first flat lay, inspired by realistic photo art of Pintail duck and eagle feathers. I designed a room with a calm and earthy feeling that reminds me of being in the forest using the feather art and colors of nature.

Flat Lay #2- Bohemian Meets Hollywood Glam
The second flat lay, evoked a much more glamorous style and feeling, like a cross between Modern Global Style and Hollywood Glam. I developed several ideas capturing the drama and glamour with different color walls.

Flat Lay #3- A Time for Whimsy- Let’s Fly
The third flat lay to me evoked a sense of whimsy and playfulness, filled with color and the sense that you can take flight and soar to any place you want to go.
As in Flat Lay #2, the feathers are stylized rather than realistic, and more colorful and playful than the gold and black feathers. Even though it has a sense of fun and whimsy, it also feels calm and relaxing with the blues and greens.
I designed two living rooms. One uses wallpaper and is more light and airy yet has texture. The deep blue wall adds more drama with the darker, rich blue.
Which is your favorite?
Bird Feathers Are a Great Source of Inspiration!
As you can see, you can use natural elements like bird feathers to inspire earthy, glamorous, and dramatic, or whimsical and playful designs!
Bird feathers can inspire many design styles and are fun to work with. There is a huge amount of variety.
Did you know you can often identify a bird just by the feathers? That is how unique they are. Mother Nature provides endless inspiration. Try your own flat lay and see what it inspires.

I Learned to Solve All My Interior Design Problems by Dancing-Light Transforms Ordinary to Extraordinary
Light isn’t merely an illuminating force—it’s a storyteller, a guide, and an artist. In the intricate dance between shadow and glow, there lies the potential to transform any space into an evocative sanctuary of feelings and experiences.
As in my philosophy of Aligned Design, the combination of artistry, science, and energectic connection captivates the power of light.and its ability to spotligh the unique facets of your environment and create an atmosphere of enchantment.
Light Makes the Magic Happen.
I have a love for many forms of art, including one of my favorites, dance. I am always noticing the similarities between what is important in the different art forms I explore.
I had the privilege of attending a dance workshop titled “From Practice to Professional Presentation,” led by the renowned dancer and instructor, Helia Bandeh. This immersive experience delved deep into the nuances of creating a visually captivating stage or backdrop for dance performances, whether live or on video. Helia shed light on crucial aspects such as décor, lighting, and costuming.
It’s astonishing how much it intersects with the principles of Interior Design! In this article, we’ll zoom in on the magic of lighting.
According to Helia, “light is the most important element in your visual presentation and can totally transform the performance or the space”. I agree, whether it is dance or Interior Design.

Light Shapes Perception
The power of light extends beyond mere illumination. It serves as a director, guiding one’s gaze. Whether illuminating an entire auditorium – encompassing both audience and stage – or narrowing down to a singular performer, light dictates where our attention lies.
In our homes and workplaces, strategic lighting can accentuate a piece of art, create a cozy reading nook, illuminate a kitchen countertop, or guide a path. The right play of light can alter our perception of space, both in terms of size and ambiance.
For instance, during a performance, when a specific area is spotlighted, it not only commands focus but can also transform the vastness of a stage or room into a cozy, intimate setting, allowing external distractions to fade into obscurity.

Light is the Master of Color
In the realm of the stage, light serves as a masterful tool for manipulating color, all without altering the physical aspects of the set. Consider, for instance, the transformative effect of various lights on a dancer adorned in a white dress. Colored lighting has the capacity to envelop the backdrop, intensify the hues enveloping the performer, or instill a distinct mood.
Within your interior spaces, the presence of colored light can profoundly impact the perceived warmth or coolness of the surroundings, thereby orchestrating the very essence of your colors. Here, light reigns supreme as it can effortlessly usher in a festive ambiance, as exemplified by the twinkling charm of Christmas lights.

Light is the Maestro of Drama
Sharp, hard light, characterized by its pronounced contrast between luminosity and shadow, isn’t just a source of illumination; it’s a storytelling tool. By carving out a space with stark differences between light and dark, hard light can evoke intense emotions, channel focus, and create a cinematic atmosphere.
Imagine a room bathed in soft, uniform light. Now, introduce a singular beam of hard light, spotlighting a piece of art on the wall or a vintage table in the center. Instantly, that object becomes the room’s protagonist, drawing eyes and sparking intrigue. This interplay isn’t merely about visibility, but about imbuing significance.
Similarly, in the realm of theater and dance, hard lighting can elevate a scene or movement, turning a simple gesture into a moment of raw, emotional power. The way it carves shadows and highlights can echo the intricacies of the human condition – our vulnerabilities, our strengths, our moments of introspection.
In essence, light doesn’t just illuminate; it punctuates, intensifies, and narrates, shaping our experience of any given space or moment.
Lighting creates drama.
Light- The Ultimate Designer’s Tool
In the realm of design, light isn’t just an element; it’s the alchemy that metamorphoses a space. “Light stands as the cornerstone of design, wielding the power to wholly redefine an environment.”
As I journey through life, my appreciation deepens for the interwoven tapestry of artistic disciplines. The parallels between Interior Design and other artistic endeavors are striking. At their core, they share foundational principles that breathe life into masterpieces. It requires a keen sense of observation, a discerning ear, and a heart that resonates with the ambient energy to truly discern these connections.
The artistry (innate creativity), melded with the precision of science (understanding of colors), and the profoundness of energy (the emotive connection), orchestrates a harmonious ballet of elements. This trinity of alignment is my guiding compass, allowing me to choreograph exquisite dance performances and craft evocative interior spaces.

Light- The Unspoken Director
Within the canvas of your interior, light is the artist’s brush, poised to highlight key facets of your environment. It possesses the remarkable ability to draw the viewer’s focus with pinpoint precision – whether it’s accentuating a cherished piece of art, carving out a serene reading alcove, illuminating a workspace in your kitchen or office, or gently guiding you along a well-defined pathway.
Moreover, the art of spotlighting and dimming is akin to wielding a magician’s wand. It bestows the power to sculpt how we perceive space, deftly crafting an atmosphere of intimacy and charm. Envision yourself nestled before a flickering fireplace, with the remainder of the room bathed in a soft, subdued glow. Or picture a cozy reading nook or a captivating game corner, bathed in the gentle embrace of selectively dimmed lighting, beckoning you to unwind and lose yourself in the moment. These are the artful manipulations of light that transform mere spaces into immersive experiences.
Light- The Master of Energy
Light directs your attention to what you want to highlight such as the art sculpture on the table, and the elements of the celebration on the other tables. Edesign by Mary Ann Benoit.
The energy of lighting profoundly influences the energy, or ambiance, of a space through how it affects our senses, emotions, and perceptions:
Emotional Resonance: Different lighting can evoke different feelings. Warm, soft lighting often feels cozy and inviting, evoking feelings of relaxation and warmth. In contrast, cool, bright lighting can energize and invigorate a space, making it feel active and alert.
Focus and Perception: Lighting can be used to draw attention to specific elements of a room, guiding one’s gaze and perceptions. By spotlighting a particular object or area, it becomes a focal point, altering how the space is experienced. Conversely, shadows can be used to create depth and mystery, lending a room an air of intimacy or contemplation.
Spatial Dynamics: The way light spreads throughout a space can make it feel larger or smaller. Bright, evenly distributed light gives the sensation of openness, making a space feel larger. Dim lighting or selectively illuminated areas can make a space feel cozy, intimate, and more segmented.
Temporal Ambiance: The changing nature of lighting, especially natural light, sets the rhythm of our day. Morning light can feel fresh and invigorating, while evening light is often warm and settling. By mimicking these natural transitions, artificial lighting can set the mood or change the energy of a room to align with our circadian rhythms.
Color Interaction: Light affects the way we perceive colors. The hue and intensity of light can enhance or mute the colors in a room, thereby changing its overall energy. A room bathed in golden hour light will feel vastly different from the same room illuminated by the bluish light of a cloudy day.
Cultural and Personal Associations: Different cultures, and even individuals, might have varying associations with light based on experiences and upbringing. For example, candlelight might evoke feelings of romance, spirituality, or introspection depending on one’s personal experiences.
Energetic Flow: In metaphysical terms, light is often associated with positive energy flow. A well-lit space is considered to have good ‘Chi’, encouraging vitality, clarity, and well-being.
In essence, the energy of lighting is intrinsically linked with the energy of a space. It’s more than just visibility; the beauty it creates or its effects on color, it’s about creating an ambiance, invoking emotions, and influencing the very essence of a space’s character.
