In my last few articles I have been exploring the 2021 colors of the year of different paint companies and comparing them in the same Edesign I created for a master bedroom. I enjoyed exploring Benjamin Moore’s Agean Teal and Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. I found that PPG had a color palette of 3 colors of the year instead of one as you can see in my article Ways to Use PPG’s Colors of the Year. I admitted I felt a little let down that they did not just commit to one color.
Then I checked on Behr’s Colors of the Year and found they had a palette of 21 colors!! Talk about non-committal. I highlighted 3 of my favorites in my article, Ways to Use Behr’s 2021 Colors of the Year.
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams lists their 2021 Color of the Year: as Passionate, which is part of their 2021 Delightfully Daring Color Collection. They hope to inspire homeowners to have confidence using bold colors to create emotion and have fun!
Is this color too exciting for a bedroom where most of us prefer a calm, relaxing atmosphere? I thought I would play with it in my master bedroom Edesign in comparison to the other colors of the year and see what happens. With a name like Passionate, I hope it would work in a bedroom:).
I experimented with a couple different ideas, to see how it might feel with a more dramatic look, and if I could create a relaxing room with a color like this.
Ha – I didn’t know that Sherwin Williams and HGTV had a color of the year! I knew about Sherwin Williams and Urbane Bronze but didn’t know about Passionate! I like the first color palette best!
I didn’t realize it either until I started researching the colors of the year for this series! Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
Hi Mary Ann: I really enjoy seeing all these different COY’s compared like this, but truth be told, none of them are what I would actually choose for my real life bedroom…but, it’s fun to dream and to see!
Thank you for helping us all do that and I wish you a Merry Christmas in a few days!
Leslie
Thank you Leslie! I’m guessing you feel more comforted with a more neutral color palette, as these are all pretty rich at least in large doses as a wall color. It has been fun comparing them and dreaming how to use them. Wishing you a Merry Christmas as well!
Okay, Sherwin Williams already had a color of the year…and yet they picked a different one for HGTV. Even though the name is inspiring, it’s not my favorite shade, but nice job making it work LOL!
Thanks Janet, and I agree! I wish these companies would pick one color, as the color of the year implies. This one is also not my favorite. I do like Urbane Bronze though, their “other” color of the year. Thanks for reading!
I think everyone is in such uncertainty they are hedging the bets on the color of the year! I’m all for bold color but not sure if this shade is my favorite! You made it work though. Great renderings.
Thank you so much, I agree. I think these companies are playing it safe by picking several colors. Passionate is also not my favorite, at least for a bedroom. I prefer the blues and greens. Much more peaceful! Thanks for reading!
I didn’t realize Sherwin Williams chose a COY for HGTV. Seems a bit weird to me.
I’m with Leslie on this one. While I love your renderings to show the different uses (I think Design 2 the best), this color is not a favortie of mine.
Thanks so much! I agree, it is not my favorite either. I prefer more restful blues and greens I think for a bedroom. Thanks for reading:)
Mary Ann what a great job sowing the COY. I’m not a big fan of Passionate. Live the lighter shades. Some
Many different spectrums of COY this year. Getting hard to keep track. Nice job.
Thanks so much! Yes, there is a big variety this year. Thanks for reading!
