Fractal art is a form of computer or digital art created by calculating fractal objects, which creates still and moving images. It is abstract art, and I love working with the brilliant colors, intricate designs, and perfect symmetry that it creates.
Fractal art is magical with its beautiful colors and intricate designs.
Most of the designs I create contain spirals, a universal symbol. Learn more in my article, What Does Your Art Mean?.
Spirals are prevalent in nature and often symbolize connection to God and universal energy. They can represent harmony, beginnings, focus, a journey, direction, and progress. The spiral progression is symbolic of the route to a higher level of consciousness. These are just a few of the meanings behind spirals in different cultures.
Just think of the beauty and positive energy it can add to your space.
Creating fractal art is like traveling through a kaleidoscope that has no beginning or end. I find a place I want to stop and stay awhile. I can manipulate the color, texture, light, shine, spectrum, hue, and other elements to create a beautiful design, and then save the image. If you asked me to create something the same again, it is impossible to ever find that place again …it would be like finding a single drop of water within the ocean. That makes each piece one of a kind.
Let’s go on a little journey together through the “kaleidoscope” in the video below.
Deciding where to stop is our first decision, and as you can see, the possibilities are endless. Once there, we can adjust colors, texture, lightness and more.
Below is an example of changing the colors.
Below, first I am adjusting light, then texture.
So what can you do with it? Use it as a focal point or as an accent to create your perfect space…you know, the place that gives you joy every time you walk in:)
Creating Your Perfect Space with Fractal Art
Here are three tips to consider before adding fractal art to your space.
1. Determine if your fractal art is going to be the focal point of the room. If so, the colors, shapes, and energy of the art should guide the rest of the design. If it is going to play more of a supporting role, consider that when selecting the colors, size or location.
2. Determine your color palette. Fractal art can have a wide range or brilliant, contrasting colors or be more monochromatic. Select a color palette that gives you joy and also works with your other decor.
3. Determine what shapes appeal to you. Fractal art often uses spiral shapes, but not always. Straight lines are less common. What shapes appeal to you and work with your furniture? Do you love curves or a more modern, streamlined look. The shapes can be very intricate and detailed, or more flowy and abstract. Which do you prefer, a piece that tells more of a story with closer inspection or creates more of a beautiful image from a distance?
The placement in the room, the colors, and the shapes all affect the energy of the room and how you feel in it.
